the normal Tvs will be around for many years to come ( at least 15 years) most of the HD channels that are around are also broadcast in SD. so unless you really want to watch HD channels ( which by the way are amazing ). theres nothing to worry about.
I'd wait a few years until the prices drop

In order to Receive HD Signals You will Need a HD Compatible Television(Plasma or LCD).
Then You will Need a TV with HDMI Inputs(That is the connector that allows the HD Signal to be Viewed).
Then you will Need Either a HD Receiver(SKY/TIVO),and a Subscription to HD Broadcasts.
Prices Will come down eventually-so it's Worth Holding off, unless you have the spare cash to Upgrade your current System

Lots of TV's have HD Ready but you will have to go out and buy one if you want one, there is no pressure to by one. We will be all Digital by 2010, so don't quote me on this but I would not be surprised if TV's sold after this date will have HD Ready capabilities.

HD television is years away from being compulsory, digital tv is due to be complete in 2010,then you will need a digital set top box to watch all programmes,so HDTV is prob at least another few yrs on top of that.

HD is a long way off before it goes to all channels, SKY have realised this and made people pay for a set top box to recieve these high quality pix and sound but why if you already have a HD t.v answer simply is no unless you pay to recieve HD

I'd try BJ's, Costco, or Sam's Club. With the economy the way it is, and Christmas Shopping going down the tubes, shop for the best deal in your area, because this is going to be the best time to by an HD, but if you want the best deal I'd wait until a few weeks after Christmas, and back yourself up with ads and be ready to exercise consumer price protection. It's a big expense, but worth it.

if you are buying a new telly your better off going for hd that way you won't need to upgrade should you want to get a hd box.but all the channels changing to hd is about 15 years off so don't panic yet.

this is just a co-incidence with the digital signal which will be broadcast. basically when the change takes place, some tv's will miss an inch of the picture either side of the screen.
