Hair is just dead keratin tissue.....nothing you do to that dead tissue will have any effect on the follicle root, which is the root of the hair, which is under the surface of the scalp.
Trimming takes place at the ends, the follicle is at the opposite end, so it has no effect. The reason people think that it helps is because the trimmed ends look less ragged and rough, and the hair will have an improved appearance for a while after the trim since some of the damaged hair is gone.

Actually no.
You're trimming the ENDS of your hair and it's growing from the roots in you head.
It will however make your hair look healthier and keep the dead ends from splitting thus causing a rather nasty look to it. And the only way to get rid of split ends is to trim them off.
Keep an eye on your hair, when you notice the ends getting dry and starting to split, it's time to trim it up.
I don't go along with the 'trim every 6-8 weeks', you could be getting rid of good hair if you trim in a certain time frame. Mine needs a little trim and it's been a year since the last one and it's just now needing it.

It is not that it makes it grow faster it just keeps it healthy. When a person doesn't trim their hair it splits. Those splits just continue to go up the hair causing a person to have to cut more hair off in the long run to make it look healthy again.

Trimming does not neccesarily help the hair grow any faster. It keeps the hair that is growing healthier by removing any spliting or breakage at the ends. It helps the hair the be healthier as it doesn grow out, somewhat giving the illusion of faster growth because half of it isn't breaking and falling onto your sink or the brush.

No. This is a myth. To make your hair grow faster, all you can do is take the best care of it so it won't fall out and wont grow SLOWER than normal.

Wash regularly
Don't comb wet hair
use a deep conditioner 2x a week if possible
try not to use any heat on your hair

One Haircut, Three Looks

A terrific hair cut for fall is the basic bob. Made popular years ago, its making a comeback due to its versatility.

Here are some how-to looks from super-stylist Frederic Fekkai:

Supersleek: Blow-dry hair straight, then polish top layers with a shine spray. Run a flat iron from roots to ends, to make hair stick-straight.

Girlie: Spritz damp locks with a volumizing gel. Then, then blow-dry straight, curling ends under with a round brush.

Curly: use a small-barrel curling iron to create corkscrew curls all over. Pin face-framing pieces at the back of your crown.

With these ideas in mind, you can achieve versatility with the simplest of haircuts! This gentle cleansing shampoo is enriched with a special complex of botanical extracts and vitamins to lend extra spring and volume to fine or limp hair. Australian Bush Nut helps hair look fuller, while seagrass clarifies and removes dulling chemical build-up. Hair is strengthened and fortified from the roots outward!

Drying Techniques for Increased Hair Volume

To obtain hair volume on the crown of your head, lift the brush and dry upward. Use downward movement only when you are drying the length of your hair.

Keep the brush on top of the crown, just a little longer than usual. Then, release it in an upward motion.

If you use styling aids, direct light bursts of hair spray toward the roots. This will give your hairstyle extra staying power.

Large Nose? Adjust Your Hair Length

If you feel your nose is too big, use a few simple illusions to hide your flaw.

Keep your hair above shoulder length. This will de-emphasize the size of your nose. Make sure your hair has volume and does not stick close to your head. Light-colored
hair works more effectively, as it tones down the facial features.

Use makeup to create nose-shrinking shadows. Even if you don't use any other makeup, apply some blush in the middle of your forehead, across the spine of your nose and in the center of your chin. Or use a concealer, slightly darker than your skin tone, to shade the skin just outside your nose.

Regular Trims

Shampoos and conditioners will do their bit, but it is equally important to regularly trim your hair.

Trimming removes split ends and dry-dull hair ends Furthermore, as our hair grows, it does not grow evenly. That's why it can begin looking unkempt after some time.

Trim your hair every six weeks to keep the ends healthy and looking great.

Yes, trimming your hair regularly does help in growing your hair faster. This is because the dead ends are always at the roots end and they stop nutrients from growing. So by cutting them off, the nutrients can continue to grow through the hair shafts and roots and thus it grows longer and faster.
