Well it all depends on your hair type and ethnic group. But mayonnaise treatments are a good place to start, but if you have thin hair it's possible it will cause it to be weighed down.
If you change your shampoo to something for dryer hair type that will help as some shampoo's are the culprit of drying out the hair.

1) take daily vitamins and extra E
2) Condition with heat (conditioner and cap apply heat)
3) Are you colouring your hair regularly? Give it a rest using temp or semi-permanent for a while.
4) get ends trimmed every other month (1/4 to half inch)

Dryness also comes from environment. Cold air or too much humidity. Wear a hat in the cold/sun to protect it. Sun dry's it bad to so if you go to the beach or pool, take your conditioner with you after your first dip, add it and sit in the sun with it.
It really depends on your hair type and lifestyle so it's hard for a full conclusion here...But e-mail me if you want to! I accept e-mails!
However prevention is the key....getting it back is hard to do but can help some situations.

As there is no moisture in the hair, the hair looks very dry, rough and unhealthy. Use a moisturizing shampoo and some conditioner or serum after the wash. This will help to lock the moisture in the hair. Henna is a natural conditioner and therefore, you can use henna pack once a week. Add the henna to lukewarm water and mix it into a paste which is not too thin or thick. Add some methi danna to it and apply for about half an hour and then wash out with shampoo. This will take out dryness from hair. Also, eat lot of vegetables, pulses, whole wheat bread, brown rice, liver, bananas, nuts and oily fish. A supplement of Vitamin E capsules will also help. Avoid salty and fatty cheeses.

Hair normally has a moisture content of approximately 10%. If your hair moisture content drops below this level the key is to increase the hair ability of attract and retain moisture. This is accomplished by using moisturizers.

Good ones have "humectants" that not only replace lost moisture but actually attract moisture and retain it in the cortex of the hair. Essential fatty aids (EFA) are great moisturizers. One of the best and most cost effective essential fatty acids is safflower oil. It is the kind you can buy to cook with. It is rich in EFA.

The scalp produces the best EFA called sebum. The problems is once the hair grows past the neck line or does not have direct contact with the scalp the scalps natural oils can not be utilized throughout the hair shaft.

You can manually replace the lost EFA by:

Placing 1 or 2 drops of safflower oil in your palms and rub them together.

There should only be enough to make your hands "shine" in the light.

Carefully take your hair (while dry) and "scrunch" the small amount of oil to the ENDS first and work toward the scalp.

Leave this in your hair.

1-2 drops of safflower oil on dry hair is so small, you won notice it is there.

Doing the above as often as necessary will ensure your dry hair will have the proper amount of humectants to attract and reatin moisture. The key is that a small amount will go a long way.

I cleanse the hair, washing and conditoning once in the shower. I then I use ModernOrganicProducts Intensive hydrating conditioner, but any moisturizing conditoner should do. I use that conditoner all over my head, focusing on the roots and the ends. Let the hair air dry, or place a plastic bonnet over it. You can rinse to prevent build up but I genrally leave the conditoner in there for at least a night to really hydrate the hair. Minimal processing (dying, straightening, chemical proceses, heat sytling) will also help your hair retain it's natural moisture. Good Luck.

1) Go for regular hair steaming service at hair salons.
2) Apply hair moisture cream or hot oil during your bath time. Like VO5 is a good one.
3) Apply hair serum at the end of the hair roots.
4) Eat more fruits to help to nourish your hair.
5) Use hair conditioner when washing your hair.

I use a conditioner for very dry hair every day - when my hair went really bad i used an intensive conditioning mask every day for about a week that sorted it out.
