God's Word tells us what the soul is: It is the person as a whole. For example we read in Genesis 2:7 that man BECAME a living soul. It does not say he was given a soul.

We all sin, so we all die. The person dies, or as Ezekiel 18:4 & 20 informs us, it is the soul that dies.

All creatures are souls. The word soul is often used interchangeably with the word "life."
