Instead of simple "logical" grounding, I would take away his/her MP3 player and I would disconnect internet. And if he leaves the house without permission I would send the police after him. One night in jail can change a teenager's attitude.

Sounds like you need to remind your teenager that he's given a good deal more than is required by law. His clothes don't have to be designer labels or even new for that matter. His food doesn't have to be tasty...only nutritious and available for consumption (cold cereals and sandwiches with only water and milk to drink). He doesn't have to have much in the way of furnishings either, just the bare minimum will do. Anything beyond what you are required is a gift and he should be aware of that. Try taking away his nice clothes and replacing them with something from Good Will that he wouldn't be caught dead in and make him go to school like that.

Simple groundings have never worked in these days. Parents give to much to their children for them to work. So start taking away these privalages. Cell phone cancled. Tv computer gone. But dont stop there. This is what my parents did. Everytime I was in trouble, I got things taken away, but If I further disobeyd them, they would keep going. I got as far as only having only my bed in my room when I realised, crap mom is serious. Also,,, get him involved with the housework. Its the weekend. he cant leave the house. He doesnt need to just be sitting around. Dishes need to be done. Trash needs to be taken out. Work needs to be done. Teach him he needs to work to get what he has.

How does he ignore a punishment? sounds like its to hard for you to confront him. You will have to physically remove the computer and tv and put in a place he cant access.
Either that, or ground him to his room. (make sure he cant get out the window) :)

Remove the power cord on the computer and monitor. Take the remote, and the coax cable from the TV. Then see how resourceful he can be if he can figure out you can get these things at Radio Shack.

You might consider getting someone else to take him in for a semester. Another adult can get a teenager to behave when they won't for their own folks. That is why teenagers were loaned out as apprentices in the colonial times. Those parents weren't stupid. The teen learned a trade, had a mentor and the parents could raise their youngun's in peace.

I would ask him if he would rather be with you and listen to some rules or would he rather go to a place where he could be with other kids that don't listen such as bootcamp!! I was a pretty selfish teenager as well and what finally got my mom to make me listen was threatening to give me away!! Clearly not the best solution but it worked!!
