It depends on the age of your mac. The most recent series of macs have been built with Intel processors, built on the x86 architecture (the same as PC's), and so they are compatible with Windows. Mac has gone even further, and introduced software called bootcamp that will help you install Windows on your mac.

It works as an interface between the individual operating systems and the computer itself.
