For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. (Matthew 6:14-15)

What does this mean to you????

We have the same teaching in Islam but I wanted to know your interpretation!

Respectfully,
muslimah!

It means that we "must" forgive our brothers and sisters or GOD will not forgive us. Plain and simple. It also shows up in the Lords Prayer where Jesus teaches us to pray daily. This was a key point of Jesus commandments for us. The Bible also teaches that we have the rite to forgive sins done to us and that GOD will also forgive them because we did. This is a very powerful rite. When Jesus was on the Cross he said "GOD forgive them for they know not what they do." According to Jesus commandments they were forgiven. This is mind blowing to think about.

May GOD richly bless you.

The way i understand the scripture is the way it is exactly. When the bible says that, it just encouraging the forgiveness to ur neighbour. How can u want to be forgiven while you don't forgive others? I mean any person does do mistakes so that also encouraging us to prolong our friend & relationships, because if the thing of forgiveness was not there, maybe almost all of the people around u, u will be now not talking to them.I think this will help. GOD bless you. By Victor

jesus had hatred for no one even those that killed him and the ones that betraid him he loved every one to the point of death he showed us how to live and to understand that pure love has no fear of anything and its this fear of what man will do to ya see this question is harder to answer then you might think cuz see the bible teaches us that one sin is no more greatter than another they are the same . if a person commits adultry is the same as if a person malasted a 1yr old james 2:8-11 and if we can do this in which god commanded us to do as in the fulfilment of the royal law belive in one god the father of jesus the christ . and love your neibour as your self then you shall do well . but the way this world teaches us that this saying of jesus is unthinkable forgiveing someone no matter what they have done but over time it can be done if you want peace for if the love of the father is in you then you are in the father and he is in you and everything is possible and there ant nothing that man can do to you since you are in the arms of jesus so thats why its very important to forgive men there sins cuz i would want god to forgive me mine and if i can do that then i can be in the holy spirit and the holy spirit in me and nothing will be impossible i can move mountains and cast them into the sea, cast out devils, heal, teach about the love that the father has for us in his sons name . so it means just as it says but for every one it has a different meaning but its the same . may the peace of the lord be with you and your family always

Salaam Muslimah! I believe it to mean you should forgive your brothers and sisters for the things they do to you if you expect God to grant you the same treatment. Basically, do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Some people who ofeend you are not doing so intentionally and you should be able to accept an apology from them and forgive them for the transgression. Then whatever transgressions you make in regards to your walk with God can be forgiven by Him as He will see you are worthy of forgiveness.

"And it is better to deal with kindness and forgiveness to those who have done wrong to you"

I look at life a little differently. I look to abraham(pbuh) as my heavenly father. A father is a man and GOD is GOD. GOD even promised abraham(pbuh) that his sons shall be many as the stars in the heavens. A covenant not yet fully fullfilled. His sons increase amply on the daily. And I am just one more on the list. I am not the one to forgive. But I am def the one to pardon.

PEACE!

Respectfully,

If you are sincere and really want to know, then ask the Spirit of God to come and live inside your heart.

This is called being born again.

The Bible speaks about this.

1 Corinthians 2:14
The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Also, it would be a good thing to do if you want to have everlasting life in heaven forever!

John 3:3-8
In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."

"How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!"

Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.

Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.

You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.'

The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."

Blessings!

You must remember the teaching that Jesus did was directed to the Jews with regard to establishing the Kingdom he was sent to set up on Earth if the Jewish people accepted him. Since the majority did not believe him to be the Messiah he went on with the plan of sacrifice for providing salvation. So in regards to the goal of those teachings to allow the Jews the opportunity to see their shortcomings and inability to attain the necessary perfection to have a direct relationship with the Father his words mean exactly as they say. They are not intended for modern day people to take as a means of attaining a relationship with the father, the only method for that now is faith alone in Christ alone.

God is teaching you to experience the nature of forgiveness. If you dont know what forgiveness truely is......when you pass on....then it will be harder for god to see you. Just a side note:... Forgiveness is a given human trait to sheild men from certain worldly evils. A gift.

well i go to a catholic school in Michigan and what he means by that is when you forgive people who hurt you, God will always forgive you when you do a wrong. But if you never forgive people who hurt you, God will probably forgive you for a little while, but when you continually become more and more unforgiving, He will not. I loved your question, Muslimah!

These words of Jesus applies to the children of Israel under the Old Covenant where God only blessed them if they obeyed God's commands during the time of salvation (or blessings) by works. Under the New Covenant God forgives our sins because of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross not because we have to forgive others. God will forgive Christians even if they do not forgive others. But Christians who do not forgive others will be poor Christians who will suffer for their unforgiveness and not be like Jesus as God called them to be. So even when God forgives a Christian unconditionlly he still suffers for his unforgiveness which is not good for him. But a Christian with unforgiveness still has his relationship with God intact. When he prays to God, God will answer him. This is God's grace.
