I would like to think it would all end, but in all reality it probably wouldn't. We don't always fight over religion. There is other things that make us angry and bitter towards each other.

If that were correct we would still find other things to fight over. However I think it's impossible that we would all ever have the same faith. Every faith has broken up into many sects because of peoples interpretations of the teachings of that faith.
You would therefore have intra faith violence etc.
As for people saying "religion is a fairytale". I'd rather believe that god created the world than some huge bang then resulted in such perfection - i.e. the sun at just the right distance, the moon and stars, the flowers, the sea, the land.
It's like saying if you put some metal, plastic and leather together and then blow it all up you'll get a car, ludicrous - thats the real fairytale that we're being told!!

There has never been one world-wide religion, which should tell you how impossible that is. The closest was the hegemony of Roman Catholicism, and of course Catholics were busy killing people of other faiths and each other, accusing them of being wrong on even minor questions of theology. Humans just don't like having to believe the same things and can't stand people who believe differently.

Yes, because schism would set in within nano-seconds!
The mindset that needs to feel special because they have an invisible friend in the sky also needs to feel more special than others so will find some way in which other people are not so blessed or favoured!

If there was only one religion, people would do what they have always done - quibble about the interpretation of that religion. Eventually these quibbles would develop into full-scale doctrinal disagreements - which would lead to schism and the establishment of separate religions. It's inevitable.

Our aggressions would likely turn to race relations if we didn't have religions to fight over. Either that or, like today, masquerade some excuse so we can fight over something like oil.
It is in our nature to fight that which is most different than ourselves, so we will always find something...at least until the aliens make themselves known to us and we'll join together as a society and attack them instead.

If the rules of that faith said kill then yes we would still be killing each other.
If the rules said live in harmony and love each other then the would would be a much better place.

yup.
havent you heard the saying "it was the last straw that broke the camel's back"
religion is just an excuse.
take the example from the WWI.
there was tension building among the six nations. they were searching for some excuse to attack. if the guy (king or archking) wasn't killed, then the nations would have found another thing to fight over.

Very few wars are done in the name of religion. They are often fought for power and wealth, under the guise of religion. So, there would always be an excuse for killing and war.
