Yes.
At the Last Supper, Jesus said, “Take this bread. It is my body.” Then he said, “Take this and drink. This is my blood. Do this in memory of me.”
Catholics believe this was the First Eucharist, that through some miracle the bread and wine actually became the body and blood of Jesus Christ.
Catholics reenact the Last Supper during every Mass, where God, acting through the priest, changes the bread and wine into the body and blood of Jesus Christ.
This is a great sacrament of thanksgiving and unity of Catholics.
With love in Christ.

As humans are social animals, communion is vitally important.
Unless you're talking about the Catholic sacrament of Communion... how important is it to eat a Jesus wafer?

Though I'm an atheist, I'd say that for Christianity it's very important. The actual physical embodiment of God in Christ is fundamental to the idea of redemption- it allows us to engage in physical exchange systems with Christ (this is a major theme of Piers Plowman). It is not simply a representation of God being within us, it actually is the condition by which that physical union can occur.

No...being a former Catholic, and doing this observance, I'd say that celebrating the Lord's Supper in the spring of the year, with another group of Christians, has much more meaning to me. Christ also tells us to observe this as a Memorial to Him, yearly. It's Biblical...that's what's important.

I`m sure you are a believer, right?
In the Bible, books of the New Testament. You would notice, whenever Jesus Christ eat with His Apostle in the table, break the bread and say: "Take and... eat it (this is my body) ... drink it (this is my blood which seals God`s covenant)"... "Do This in remembrance of me"
It signifies great event in history of mankind...the forgiveness of sins and salvation of souls. So, this act /symbol of Jesus Christ great sacrifice to save many souls should be remembered well, done and taken up daily/always, that the people will always remember to do away with sins that His sacrifice may not be in vain...
And the people taking it always, pays respect to Jesus and thank Him of His great sacrifices for salvation of ones sins that he will try to avoid sins/temptations and keep its body sacred all the time for Jesus to dwell . It serves as the connections between God and man, that Jesus presence maybe continuous in one`s body.

It is just a ritual. Jesus told us that the kingdom of the father is within us. That's already as close as we can get.
