I'm going to a close friends funeral today. He is a decorated Army soldier that just returned from a second tour in Iraq. I would like to place a picture in his casket. Is this okay? Thanks for your help.

It is an open (shrouded) casket.

I placed an item in friend and fellow Soldier's casket. It was a small medallion of St. Christopher 'traveler's saint'.

Traditionally there is nothing against it - just ask the familiy first.

I am sorry for your loss. To the Soldier - thank you for your service.

I placed some items important to me in my uncles casket the day of his military funeral...I say do it. You get one chance.
I send you my condolences for the loss of your friend.

I would think so , but do so at the services prior to the casket being moved to the herse just prior to the services

if the immediate family has no objections, i don't see why you couldn't place something of value in the casket.
