My hair used to be really soft, silky and just overall nice as a child (up untill around 11 or 12ish). Then it got kind of thick and lost it's silkiness and became a bit curly. I grew weary of it since this type of hair didn't suit me at all, so I got a hair straightener.. but now everytime I shampoo my hair poofs up into an afro (I'm trying to grow my hair out at the moment).

Does anybody have any suggestion on what I should do to recover from this or at least aid it? I'm almost 17 now, it's been a good 4-5 years since I lost my fine hair.

I'm guessing it had something to do with puberty. but it shouldn't blow up into an afro/mushroom everytime after I apply water on my hair.. right?

Go to a hair salon and show them your problem. They can recommend a good shampoo and conditioner to help bring back some of the softness. But any time you use any chemicals on your hair, it changes the texture of it. Let your hair grow out, and be happy with a bit of curl.

I would just be glad I had curly hair, if I were you! Mine is so fine and I have to have a perm every 3 months. :(

The bad news, is water/moisture makes curly hair wind right up no matter what. Good news is that your hair structure changes every 7 years, you're not stuck with anything. Try using a conditioner and blow-drying in the direction you want the hair to go, with a paddle brush, and setting the style with a cool burst of air, or by sitting in front of a fan and combing through (again in the intended direction). This will help to train your hair.

in case you prefer a very stable one, i prefer to propose a a approaches better-end one. Its observed as Joico ok-Pak Reconstruct Conditioner. Its around $13 yet its dazzling! I even have terrible curly hair and its made my hair gentle, silky, and gentle. do no longer USE DRUGSTORE HAIR products. Please dont! like the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle, or the different drugstore sort. Like Pantene, Garnier Frutics, organic Essences, and so on. they only have silicone, wax, and ingredients and seem to make your hair vivid, gentle and stuff and all its incredibly doing is coating your hair and makes it WAYY worse than it became into till now.

The same thing happened to me....
I have to say that the only thing that helps is to blowdry it everytime after washing hair and using straightening syampoo and conditioner. it gets better once ur hair is longer......but i have to tell you, that I'm still stuck with it after 18 yrs :(
