Go as a "Tourist Visa" and if you really want to work. Go under the table, you earn more money plus you don't have to pay tax. Or while you are site seeing, you could try to find a job and if they accept you then they will have to give you a working VISA because the company is like sponsoring you. Where ever you go, don't go to Australia because is a place where gives you nightmare. You won't be able to extend your VISA because they hate people staying there for over one year. Regardless what your reason is unless your partner is Australian.

Some countries like NZ and Australia allow people without visas to work if there is a real need and not enough people in the country to do the job - this generally involves seasonal work like fruit picking. It's a way to get some cash in though.

try contacting voluntary services overseas(vso) you could do voluntary work abroad
