hi, i was at judo last nite and a big lad fell on me when i was coming in for a big throw. my hip poped and went back in, i managed to get up and get home in AGONY.

I then ended up in an ambulance and my leg went purple and cold, and i got pins and needles in my leg and i lost the sensation. I had an xray but they said even though it dislocated, there is muscle damage that has been left. I still get pins and needles, the paramedic said i may have trapped a nerve, hence why my leg went funny.

Has anyone had this experience that could tell me about and how long the pain will last, the hospital were not very helpful. any idea or advice will be appreshated, thanks

Look in the phone book and locate a D.O. That's a Doctor of Osteopathy. THey practice medicine the same as an MD, but they also recieve training in something similar to chiropractic medicine. For physical injuries like yours they are the best. They can adjust the hip to relieve pressure on the nerves and realign everything. They will work with you to help your body heal, using medicine when necessary, but also physical therapy. Failing that, you need to visit an orthopedic doctor. Your hip may or may not have relocated correctly, and it could very well have impinged a nerve. It could just be the soreness of having it hit, but it's definitely worth it to have it checked by somebody with some level of expertise in the matter. Meantime, it's hard to say how long the pain will last. Apply heat and take Motrin for the inflammation. And make the appointment as soon as you can. Better to have them examine it and say it's just sore from the thump, or have them manipulate the hip to relieve the pressure if that's what is needed, than suffer not knowing, or suffer damage that can be avoided. I worked in the military with both MD. and DO, and I suffer from sciatica on both sides- and the DO were the only ones who could manipulate it and relieve the pain without having to drug me senseless or just leave me to suffer until it went away.

If you are still having symptoms of pins and needles call your GP this could be a sign that your circulation has been compromised and needs to get checked out. Not all injuries show clearly on xray and muscle takes time to heal. I have a clicky hip that partially dislocates itself from time to time and my upper thigh can feel cold and numb for a while but try to keep mobile and not overdo it as this is the best way to prevent the joint and muscles from seizing up

Hi yes all the symptoms you are having are all because off the dislocation. When you dislocate any part off the body all the muscles, nerves.ligaments get moved too and this takes time for all these to adjust bck to normal. The sensation will come bck,but you must keep an eye on this as it can cause serious problems. You should have been referred to a orthopaedic to take further x-rays and to make sure the hip is correctly bck in to the socket,if not the hip joint will likely to pop out again. If you are still in pain and discomfort please go bck to your gp and explain to him.He may refer you to the orthopaedic consultant which really the A/E drs should off done ,these dislocations should be kepted an eye on with regular x-rays etc,as hip joint do tend to pop out alot once its happened once, then surgery is then needed if this happens often.Good Luck Lisa.
