I do not know if this is a silly question, but I am about to buy a Pedigree Bulldog. I am due to pick it up in 2 weeks, but have just been told by the breeders that it has a kink in its tail. Not knowing much about this, I would like some advice on if this means anything, has it any health implications? I am not buying the dog to stud out or as a show dog, it is purely a family pet. But I am just a litle concerned if this means anything, and do not want to spend lots of money just in case. The tail is has a kink and points downwards. The parents of the dog are both healthy as are all the other pups. Any advice would be welcomed. Thanks

All it means is that instead of growing straight the bone is not formed correctly and has grown wonky. Things to think about include...
I expect that you are paying a lot of money for this pup so you will want to be assured that you are making a wise purchase and that the pup is healthy. Are you happy with the price agreed with the breeder? Are they discounting the 'faulty' pup?
You want a pet so your concerns are not about conformation to the breed standard (I'm assuming you are talking about an English Bulldog? They are usually docked anyway)
The only health concern I would have in your place is to ask the breeder at what point this kink was noticed in the pup. If from birth its not a big deal and won't affect him at all. If they say we noticed it last week then I would suspect that he had broken his tail! This would have caused pain at the time and there may then be complications. A reputable breeder would have had the tail checked by the vet when he had his first set of injections. Ask about this - they won't mind because it is evidence of your concern for the health of the pup - surely their concern too.
Usually breeders ask prospective owners to sign a contract when then they sell the pup to you. This usually includes a statement about the pup being in good health as far as they are aware and a guarantee of some sort - eg, any probs in the first month and return the pup for full refund.
So, in summary, although I hope this means you feel more informed, don't worry, a kinky tail is a trait that will make your pet bull dog even more unique as your pet!
Enjoy him , they are such characters!

I have two mixed breed rescued puppies that I am fostering. They both have a little kink at the end of their tails. They both also carry their tails like a husky or an Akita (both of which could be a parent to these pups) I was curious what would cause it. I had two other pups from the same litter and they didn't have one.

the kink is probably due to the way he was positioned in the womb but it poses no health risks, the only problem you would face is if you were showing but if you are spending lots of money you may get the puppy at a cheaper cost due to the cosmetic flaw since you could NEVER show and as far as breeding I doubt it would even cause a problem there.

The kink poses no health issue to your dog. Had a cat with this years ago and it never adversely affected the cat.

If your not breeding or showing your dog then a kink in the tail is nothing to worry about.
Its nothing to worry about regarding the dogs health

As long as the dog is healthy and it's tail is not infected or causes pain, it is perfectly alright. We had a dog who's tail was broken at birth, obviously he could not be shown but he was a fantastic dog with no side effects at all, in fact, it just made him rather unusual and special.

it is just a kink. Purely a cosmetic fault and won't cause any more health problems than the breed already has.

unless you are showing the kink in the tail is just a minor thing....not a health problem at all....

Yeah,it IS "silly"!

Didn't you do ANY*RESEARCH*???
READ the BREED STANDARD???
WHY NOT??

It's very common in the breed & no big deal.

"PEDIGREE" is ONLY a record of parentage, a "family-tree"....MUTTS/MONGRELS have "pedigrees" ...YOU do if you know who your parents are!

Does NOT mean PURE BRED **OR** "registered"!!! VERIFY that it is BOTH before you spend a PENNY!!!!!
