* no democratic process. When a city makes a law saying people can only have one dog each (meaning any excess dogs will have to be put down), you are going to p i s s people off.

* demography. The population will age, and millions of men will be single and unhappy due to the gender imbalance.

* rule of law. Weak, so it discourages legitimate investment.

* environmental degregation. the soils are becoming deserts, the air is polluted, clean water will be harder to source

* nationalism/racialism. Didn't do the West much good. Won't do China any better.

1. over population(lots of bikes on the streets along with cars traffic would get backed up often for long periods of time.
2. under paid r/t education levels(everyone I met had a masters or a PhD, but were at jobs that didn't pay well unless they lived in a westernized country and moved back to china.
3. pollution/ fog ( I went to Xian it was thick with fog) Beijing also had fog/ pollutants, but significantly less)shanghai had the least amount of air pollutants of the cities i visited.
4. unorganized events/(ex) we went to the forbidden palace the president of France was there, so they locked us in while he toured the place. everyone was unable to get out or see this place but they still charged everyone for their ticket.
5. Inability to speak English( Everything is in Chinese. Ex the airport ,menus
street signs. I missed my plane in shanghai ,because no one could give me directions to where I was suppose to board. I was fortunate enough that I was meeting someone in Xian that was a native of china, so she was my eyes and ears. I met many of her friends, family, and local people no one could speak English which makes it difficult for tourists. I hope this changes before the Olympics happens because their will be many unsatisfied people.
