that question has been ask as long as the answer and no one knows for sure. for each religion you will get a different answer. the bible tells us that we inter a state of sleep now i dont know about you but when i sleep i dream so maybe death is like a dream intell we are given our new bodies when christ returns . then we are judged and either sent to heaven or the lake of fire. there are many verse in the bible that help us or make it more confusing to us what happens after death like job14:21 his sons come to honor and he knoweth it not ; and they are brought low , but he perceiveth it not of them . and like the rich man and lazerous in luke16:19-31. and then in ecclesiastes 9:5-10 are just a few passages in the holy bible . now there are things in this world that cant be explain and ghost are one of them we have been ghost hunting for sometime now off and on and gotten some very interresting things like picturs of vortexs apperition and lots of orbs and dust . evps (electroniec voice phonamanon) tapes upoin tapes of voices that shouldnt be there . which i HIGHLY suggest that you dont ghost hunt your self inless you are ready for the consaqunces of ghost hunting cuz some times you bring your work home with you lol if you know what i mean . but my opion in what happens to us when we die is that we go into a sleeplike state in the form of a orb (intell jesus come back to take us home ) in which we float around and some one takes oue picture and arugues with their friends that we ant a speck of dust that was close to the lens of the camera. just be careful on how you try to get your answer cuz your work will follow you home,. and besides it ant death that we should be seeking answers for its everlasting life and how do i get it hopes this helps may the peace of the lord jesus be with you and your familky always

The easiest answer is: 'heaven'. But it doesn't work like that! When a person dies, he goes to that level of existence that he has merited while here on earth. This could be any level of heavens, and which part he goes is also dependent on what he need to do or learn. If he was extremely negative while on earth, he is taken to a reformatory school in any of the lower planes of existenc, generally the Astral plane (some call it hell, and other call it purgatory) where he goes through some training and he is return to earth to practice what he has learned while in the reformatory school. If an individual weighs heavily on the positive side, he generally goes to rest and reevaluate his weaknesses, with the hope of doing better in another round of birth. You see, life is a perpetual balancing of accounts where you are debited with the bad and credited with the good deeds, until the scale is balance you will repeatedly need to come back to earth for payment. Hence, the theory of eternal hell or heaven is faulty. God is a being of love, and we are created, as Souls, from the body of God. Therefore, God cannot allow us to burn eternally. Can you as a father allow your son to suffer forever while you can help? God is more benevolent and loving than our earthly father. The whole of our existence on earth is to become a 'co-worker' with God.

1. "Know thou of a truth that the soul, after its separation from the body, will continue to progress until it attaineth the presence of God, in a state and condition which neither the revolution of ages and centuries, nor the changes and chances of this world, can alter. It will endure as long as the Kingdom of God, His sovereignty, His dominion and power will endure. It will manifest the signs of God and His attributes, and will reveal His loving kindness and bounty."

2. "As to the question whether the souls will recognize each other in the spiritual world: this fact is certain; for the Kingdom is the world of vision where all the concealed realities will become disclosed. How much more the well-known souls will become manifest. The mysteries of which man is heedless in this earthly world, those he will discover in the heavenly world, and there will he be informed of the secret of truth; how much more will he recognize or discover persons with whom he hath been associated. Undoubtedly, the holy souls who find a pure eye and are favored with insight will, in the kingdom of lights, be acquainted with all mysteries, and will seek the bounty of witnessing the reality of every great soul. Even they will manifestly behold the Beauty of God in that world."

3. "... a love that one may have entertained for any one will not be forgotten in the world of the Kingdom. Likewise, thou wilt not forget (there) the life that thou hast had in the material world."

dear friend,
every one in this world is tied around with his/her karmas done in this birth or previous births. when his/her time for living as decided by the almighty is finished then they move into there next birth. their positions in the new birth is decided by the almighty as per the balance karmas left in his account maintained by the almighty god. If there is no balance in the account then the soul is joined to the almighty.

It`s up to you ,God will give you the choice, either to heaven or to hell. Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life, , you have to call on Jesus He`s the only way to paradise and heaven. Their is only one God,and He will take you if you ask Him.
