Old school black / grey wash tattoos are not any more expensive than adding a bit of color to the design. I have many tattoos and would never dream of sporting a black / grey wash tattoo. I like realistic colorful tattoos. It's all in the choice of the person getting the tattoo!
Choose your tattoo shop and artist carefully. Look at the artists portfolio and also seek out answers and view the cleanliness of the place you are choosing to have your skin art done! Hepatitic C, HIV/AIDS including Staph infections can be transmitted in a place that is NOT STERILE----Visit a few shops...Watch them as they glove up----If they're answering the phone, handling $$$, shaking hands with customers and not re-gloving RUN FOREST RUN from a place like that!! If the place isn't starting the set up trays with sterile equipment pulled out of sterile packs ----RUN forest RUN! If the needles are not one time use ----get out of that place as quickly as possible!!

They usually are due to the ability to do a tattoo quicker w/out changing colors. But if you really want color then save up and get what makes you happy.

If it's a simple design, then it would be cheaper. But if it's an intricate design with a lot of fine-line shading, then the price would probably be about the same. Black or color, work is work and you'll pay for it.

They usually have a body chart and depending on where you want your tattoo they choose the price from that chart. You can get the same tattoo on you arm and back and pay a different price for each, but I am not sure if they go by color I thought the PRICE depended on that body chart???????Let me know.

If you were to get the same exact piece done in black and in color, the black one would be less expensive.
Price shouldn't be a deciding factor in what you get, though. This thing is going to be on your body for the rest of your life, so don't be cheap about it!! It would be better to save up for a while and get exactly what you want than to go ahead and get something cheap and less than perfect now.

They sure are...and with colored tattoes...the color will eventually fade..thus you have to go in for touch ups! I would go with the black if possible! Hope this helps...Thinking of getting a tat? Good luck!
