First take Sundays off and get a good long 10 hour sleep to refresh you for the rest of the week. Do not study on that day and have fun. For the rest of the days make a schedule and devote only 45 minutes or 1 hour to one subject. Do not pick up a book and keep learning from it for all night long. That can make anyone sleepy and bored. Try to keep a goal to finish in those 45 minutes such as 2 pages or answers or 5 pages or numericals, according to your speed. Make notes to make revisions easier.

Hi,
The problem is common with almost many persons. The mind is full of distractions and is always wavering on thoughts. When you start reading something, the diversified mind is not able to co-operate with you and makes you feel tired and so is that sleepiness.
While reading, do have some water with you. for each and every ten minutes try drinking some water. Consume less. After having water, just close the book and try to recollect what you have read. If you are able to re-collect, your mind is co-operating you. else, you have to re-read the same until you are complete with that.
At any case, plan your reading time. Do your activities only at that allotted time and do not try to steal time from other activites, because it will always bother you in some way or other.
When you mentally feel tired, just do some pranayama for just 2 mins. Close one side of your nostrils and inhale through other for 10 secs. Close both nostrils and try to keep the air inside for another 10 secs. Now slowly release the air through another side of your nostrils for 10 secs. Doing so for 5 or 6 times, will make you relax and you can concentrate well.
If you think you can, it is almost certain that you can.

Dear Tushar,
It's quite natural and you want to impress everybody by becoming studious.
Instead of finding out how to avoid sleeping/getting bored, you must try to figure out how to create interest in the subject. If you have the interest, you won't sleep
For example, If you are reading a novel which you like or interested in, you will never sleep. Why ? you like it and want to know what will happen next in the story line.
Similarly you must develop the thirst for learning and knowing things. Don't see studying as just memorizing and scoring marks. Understand, learn and look at their applications in practical life while studying. Engineering is an interesting subject.
All the best.

I have the same problem and I too am an engineering major, biological engineering. My problem was always staying awake in high school though. If you have glasses but don't need them, i recommend wearing them. Listen to music (that won't put you to sleep) Go to a study place at school that is well lit. Sit outside and study. I hope this helps. If you need more advice email

First, take a course in basic English, your math ability must be awsome because you certainly did not get into college with your writing ability.
Second, study is work, work is boring, just do it, if you really want the results.
Do NOT study in your bedroom or lying on the couch. Break your study down into small chunks, just as you were taught to approach an engineering problem.

Hi there !
The answer given by Smriti seems to be excellent !
You follow that ..okay ?
The other aspect of the coin is that "the will power should come from "inside you" ! The "urge" ..the "firm decision that I will do it from today " should come from you...
Nobody else can help you in that..No medicine or no person can do that !
Remember..you are not a 5th standard student ! "Wake up today and NOW" !
Plan for tomorrow !
All my best wishes !

Create a good study environment: No TV, music, distractions. Have a comfortable temperature: not too cold or too hot. No heavy meals prior to study but don't be too hungry. Try studying in a library.
