The simple answer is that Jesus founded a church, not a bible, and Jesus gave power and authority only to his Church, not the Bible.

The center of all worship in the Catholic church is Jesus Christ, alive and glorious, truly and substantially present on the altar, at every Catholic Mass.

Compared to God himself, the bible, wonderful as it is, has to come in second!

The only people who have problems with this are those who showed up 1500 years late, after the world had already been converted for Christ, and after all the hardest work had already been completed.

The true test of the Christian faith isn't trying to decipher the meaning of scripture (the church has always understood that, as the church produced the bible) it's being faithful to both God and the universal Church he founded.

And incidentally, Jesus honored his mother Mary, and he still does. If that's good enough for him, it should certainly be good enough for us. And no Christian should need explicit written instructions regarding such a practical and simple matter.

The bible refers to non-divine persons as "father" in over 100 places. Jesus refers to Abraham as "father" and Abraham is certainly not divine.

Some non-Catholics choose to interpret scriptural references to "father" only in the negative, because of their bias against the Catholic priesthood in general, and not because of any true scriptural prohibition.

To borrow a literary nuance from Christ himself ... the bible was made for man ... man wasn't made for the bible!

Catholics not only produced the bible, know it, and love it ... they live it and experience it ... along with the real presence of Jesus Christ, through his one, holy, apostolic, and universal Church.

Bible only Christians try to make do only with a book, and a long distance "relationship" so it's no wonder they fail to understand many, many things.

Pity!

Why is everyone down on the Catholic Church look at the other religions do they follow the bible too. Without Mary there would be no Jesus and what is wrong in calling a priest father it is just a title like mum and dad and we don't worship her to pieces we thank her for giving us Jesus

First of all, Protestants also, for many years, often called their ministers "father." I think some still do, in fact.

The reference to priests as "father" is a long story, but it basically involves their being the living presence of Christ on earth.

Also, all of us call our male biological parents "father," and no one is screaming about this being against the Bible.

Finally, we Catholics do not "worship Mary to pieces." We don't worship her at all. We only worship God.

Your question was "Why does the Catholic Church not follow what's in the Bible?"

But the more appropriate question is, "Why do so many Protestants persist in pushing gross misconceptions about Catholics, such as the one that claims we worship Mary?"

When Jesus commanded his disciples to call no man Father, he meant none of the religious leaders of his day, especially the Pharisees. In time, Paul will refer to himself as Timothy's "spiritual father". This tradition has stuck.

The Gospel clearly teaches that "all generations will call [Mary] blessed".

When the wise men bent the knee to Jesus in adoration, they would have looked up to see what is commonly depicted as a statue in many Catholic churches... a young woman with a child in her arms. Catholics wish to recall that sacred image.

as far as you must know, only the Catholic Church can explain the Bible well. after all, it's the true and original church founded by Jesus Christ Himself.

i doubt you really understand the Bible in case you're reading it.

in honoring the Virgin Mary, we are following Christ's example. and who said we worship her? make a thorough investigation and avoid believing in mere hearsay. give yourself some credit. don't make yourself look stupid.

addition:

why, is it in YOUR version of bible to hate the Virgin Mary? that says a lot about your religion and beliefs.

The Priest would defend his title for you so talk to the Priest. Or ask a theologian. Virgin Mary is the Mother of Jesus the Son of God it is with all faith to honor her as Queen of heaven and Earth. If people an honor their mother how much more the Mother of God.

You have just begun an explanation of the protestant revolution started by Martin Luther. These questions have been asked before. Aprox. 700 years ago.
