This is the title of a book that war written as a guide for the persecution of witches (the authors words). It explained how to recognize witches, how to test to see if someone was a witch, and outling the varius punishments (tortures) they should be subjected to. It was widely used in Europe and in the American Colonies during the last phases of te Witch Trials in the late 16 and early 1700's. One of the more INFAMOUS works on the subject.

The Malleus Maleficcarum, or The Hammer of Witches, was first published in Germany in 1487 as a comprihensive wtich hunter's handbook.

It was used by many to identify and interegate possible witches into confessing.

Despite the common idea that it was used by the Catholic church during the Inquisition, it was apparently never offically accepted by the church and was even banned soon after it's publishing.

It was, however, used by protestants in many of their witch trials.

The Maleus Maleficarum was a manual of procedure and a guide for reference used by the Inquisition beginning in the late 1400's. The primary focus of the work was, obviously, how to find, torture, kill, and of course "save" a witch. It was also something of a legal manual for dispatching all sorts of heretics.

A bloody work, indeed.
