and got a very nasty virus that popped up porn and other nasties has anyone else had this problem or was he just unlucky?????

What icon did you click? Only download Microsoft software from
http://www.microsoft.com
It was recently sent out as an update anyway.
If the icon was on your pc it sounds like its infected. Run a full anti virus and anti spyware scan in Safe Mode.
Before attempting to remove malware you must switch off System Restore as back up files will be hiding in there, and it will just restore itself. Go to Start - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore.
Run your anti virus and anti spyware in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode repeatedly press the F8 key after the bios screen loads but before Windows loads. You'll know if you made it because the screen will be at 800 x 600 and your pc will be slow.

Virus or spyware...got that by visiting "nasty" sites ;)) scan your computer, there are many tools.. find them on the web.

he may have downloaded a song that had an extra 'perk' to it
I had one called Gator - and it brought home the trash!
Need to get some freeware called Adaware - it should locate the beastie and throw it out or contain it.

Sounds like he was just unlucky.
I recently installed it and have had no problems.

never heardof that go to microsoft website to download it though
