Ah grasshopper, the difference MAY lie in one essence.
Years ago, when poring over this very question a tasting panel thought they came up with the answer. Coca-Cola seemed to use a fractional amount of an orange essence and Pepsi was believed to use a lemon essence. Otherwise they were indistinguishable.
When asked, both companies stood on their "vow of secrecy", but the question seemed to hit uncomfortably close to home.
I cannot attribute this, and it may be apocryphal or even urban legend, but ever since, I swear I can taste the tiniest difference of orange/lemon in the two.
Don't personally care for either one.... I like Squirt. With tequila.

Have you tried them. Just drink Coke. Don't bother with pepsi.

quik_san, what are you saying? "DIET" means artificially sweetened!
IE: Chemical laced!
Coke, Pepsi. The only difference between 'normal' and 'diet' is the time it takes to shorten your life.
No prize for guessing which one takes the shortest.

Some say Pepsi is thicker and more syrupy. I can't tell the difference. They both rot your teeth.
