NO. Do NOT take more than the reccomended dose of tylenol and DO NOT exceed 800mg per day. Tylenol is the number one cause of drug overdose, it can lead to liver and kidney damage.

Beyond half dose/full dose, no. Most drugs are metabolized in the liver. As the liver does not really grow beyond adulthood even if the adult goes on to become overweight, the recommended dosage should not be exceeded. This is the exact same reason most drugs say do not take with alcohol, which is also metabolized in the liver.

Unfortunately, our school system fails completely when it comes to drug and alcohol education. If people knew the effects of these chemicals on their bodies, they'd take a more responsible approach to their ingestion. Just saying they're "bad" is not education - actually outlining the enzymes required to ingest these substances shows exactly why alcohol consumption is related to weight while drug consumption is not, while both are asking for tasking from the liver.

Primarily the weight rule is to prevent too much of a medicine being given to children and babies. Once you are an adult, most medications have an effective dosage that above that dose will not help anymore but may in fact cause harm to your internal organs or even death.

An average adult can take up to 800mg of ibuprofen at a time, but eight hours apart (not to consume more than 1600mg in an regular day)with food.

Tylenol is best when taken no more than 1000 mg at a time, not good for the liver. You can OD on Tylenol very easily.

If someone is grossly obese 350+ lbs. then yes a Doctor can up the dosage on any drug as he/she sees fit.

dosing medicines by weight applies ONLY to children unless otherwise directed by a physician.....over the counter medications have a specific set of directions on them for a reason and they should be taken ONLY as directed...besides taking too much Tylenol or any acetaminophen will kill your liver...good luck

No, and don't make it an excuse. Another factor you should consider is drug tolerance. The more drugs you take the more your body builds up a tolerance. Find alternatives to drugs and take them only if you have no other choice. There is no quick fix.

Interesting question- I mean its how they base how much to give children by weight so why wouldn't it be true for adults? never thought about it.
