i think a lot of people, myself included, would be saddened... but it would be as with the death of the Prophet(saw)

The day the Prophet(saw) died Abu Bakr when to the masjid and announced his(saw) death.. and then he said, "Those of you that worship Muhammad should be in mourning for he is dead; but those of you that worship Allah should rejoice because he is alive forever."

**if there were any that worshipped the kaaba, their religion would fall apart. but the true Muslims that worship Allah alone..... would go on worshipping Allah

The KAABA was destroyed during Islamic history 2 or 3 times, one by force and other by flood and they manage to rebuild it again. The KAA'Ba you see to day it is not the original one as at once it was completely destroyed by nature during Ottoman empire and was rebuilt and the direction for pryers still the same.

Since the destruction of the Kaaba is considered among the signs of the Hour, I think when it happens there will be a general consensus on that.

if the majority of muslim scholars believe and feel it would be right to turn our faces to Aqsa then I will not question it.

It does not feel completely wrong to do so since it was the qibla before.

Like Fagies,i find it difficult to even hypothetically consider your question. The masjid Al-Aqsa is regarded just as highly in Islam.May the Kaaba sharif always be protected.

Im sorry i"m not sure how to answer that, cos I know that it will not happen, unless we are really near the end of time( when the Ka'abah will be destroyed by a group of army .
But still, even though it is not there, the direction has been mentioned by God, and this stand till armageddon.

No, because the Kaba is not something we worship but a focus point so that everyone in the world is pointing in one direction. Mekkah is situated right in the centre of the world even if the Kaba is no longer standing we still should pray in the same direction.

we will continue to make salat in the direction of the Holy Kabah. By the way, the Holy Prophet fortold the destruction of the Kabah during the end times by a red-headed evil man.
