Would you give a former street cat a home?
Would you give a former street cat a home?
I've recently set up a website aimed at getting some kitties that live on the street near my place into homes. It has live streaming video of the kitties needing homes at night, and my kitties in the day. For awhile I was getting a good response, but now it's quietened down, and I need to figure out how to get it happening again! Ideas?? It's for a good cause...I"m paying for the desexing, vaccinations, aids & FelV testing etc.... the site is http://www.kittiesinthehood.com
I have already adopted 8 myself, and really need help with the other 12!

In our town, some of the businesses have adopted the street cats, and it gets them good press in the local papers..You might find a way to use that..
I used to care for MANY street cats..Some turned into great pets, and some just liked having a place to crash and live...lol
Great website! I watched all the videos, but couldn't receive the live cam..

Yes as long as you first take it to the vet so it does not expose you any children or other pets to potentially harmful things. I have had sheltered a few, ended up keeping one because once they gain your trust...it's the best kinda cat....very loving to. But that could be situation, try to mark it's behaviors and keep track of them, maybe through a diary?!
Your wonderful for the time you commit to this and trying to make a difference! As far as the responses slowing down....get more marketing ideas to promote this through local shelters and vets! They may even be able to help you with some ideas. To me my favorite answer is "squeaky wheel gets the grease"...And it's also holiday time...people sometimes neglect this for this time is expensive.
Great idea though! I shelter animals and tame some if I have to. I love hope and you offer that don't give up! Good Luck! Let me know how this keeps going!

I have two beautiful cats who were adopted from the street, a 3 year old femals and her grown up kitten. Unfortunatly we had to move before we could tame the other two, both fully grown males, enough to take them in... now I don't know what happened to them.
You're site is great and you're doing amazing work :) thank you!

There is an organization called Alley Cat Allies that can probably help you with the cost of spay/neutering and basic shots. That is the most important thing--getting them fixed as soon as possible.
Thank you for helping the cats in your neighborhood! Good luck on getting them adopted.

I think that people know that these cats are often psychologically scarred. They can be cold as pets, or overly needy for affection. They can be hostile to other cats in the house. You should address this issue in your website to allay people's fears. If a particular kitten has a good disposition, mention that. If the kitten has issues, mention that too, and appeal to people's sympathy.
