Better than some, yes.
Complex life is only possible through the cooperation of smaller parts. Cells cooperate to create tissue, tissues to create organs, organs to create the organism. Learning to cooperate this way is largely destiny in a competitive environment.
Because of individual habits, specializations, mating necessities, etc., some species are more dependant on cooperation than others- while some express their social skills in entirely different ways.
Men and dogs are both highly cooperative social animals- capable of understanding guilt at least if not also shame, as well as the value of teamwork. Compare them to cats who are also highly social, but much less cooperative. Still different is the constricting snake, who does not seem to care at all about anything that isn't either dinner, or perhaps another snake. Other animals relate to each other in ways we are yet to understand- for example jellyfish.
Humanity belongs to that category of animal that, on the surface at least, is most considerate of all. We share that category with many other mammals, particularly other omnivores. To me it also seems that the most social creatures are also those that are the most vulnerable when they are young. Perhaps there is some causality in that.

Sometimes I really wonder about this myself, there should be a definite YES to this question, but with the way the world is today, its hard to say that, but I do think that humans do have more concern for others only because we have the intelligence and ability to act and react to the emotions that animals don't have..

Depends how you look at it. There are more species that show altruism towards others (even those of different species) than most people think.
Btw, that claim that "mankind was put here to rule over the animal kingdom" - what a crock. Showed how well we did that didn't we? What kind of "ruler" commits mass genecide and causes suffering to it's subbordinates. Mankind, in his arrogance, assumes this position but it was never given to him.

TURN ON THE NEWS AND CHECK IT OUT. Man is the most evil creature on the face of the earth and since we are the ones created in God's image this is not a good sign.
