okay so my mom just had a mamogram [spelling??] and her doctor just sent her a letter saying they need to redo the left one which has never happened before. she says the receptionist told her it might be because it's blurry or something. could she have breast cancer even though we're not related to anyone who has it. does it even have to do with being related to a cancer person?

Just because she has to have the test redone doesn't mean that the news will be bad. If she does have cancer, that is not as bad as it used to be. There are new drugs and therapies available now and so even though everyone hopes your Mom's news will be good, even if she does have a tumor, there is a lot more they can do now than even 5 years ago.

And to answer your last question, up to 50% of new breast cancer cases are in women with no family history.

My Mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer and was in remission less than 2 years later. Almost a year after that, she is still in remission. So there are good, positive things happening in the world of medicine!

Your Mom is smart to get her mammograms! So many women don't, even when they have the insurance coverage for it!

Best wishes to you and your Mom!!

You could become a rich person if you got money for every time my wife was sent a letter or was called to have a mamogram or X-ray redone.

It is understandable that you are worried, but it is quite common to have mammogram redone simply to make sure they get a clear picture of what they're seeing. If anything is found, different tests will need to be done. My fingers are crossed

My guess is the first one just didn't come out right. I would think if the doctor saw something he would bring her in to tell her. I will pray that I am right and she is fine. God Bless.

that's why they're doing another test to make sure it's okay, false-positives come back all the time for one reason or another -- that dosn't mean anything. Trust in God, He'll make sure your Mom is fine.

it could be anything really -- don't worry too much until its time to worry and then you won't even want to worry because its just counter productive. find constructive things to do instead. like start looking online for christmas presents for your mom to make her happy instead of just worrying about things you can't change or control.

I had this happen to me and it was nothing. I even had to have an ultra sound done. My Dr. said it happens a lot, but it is usually nothing. They like to do thorough screening.
