She's about a year and half and she just loves to tear up cotton. Cotton balls, q-tips, tiolet paper, paper towels etc. She's always been this way. I dont know what to do and it is a very expensive habbit. She just tears it too shreds. Has any one gone through this problem? Or does anyone have any adivce? (without declawing her)

Does she have any other toys to play with? Or maybe a scratching mat or post. It sounds like cotton is her "toy" of choice right now, she might just need a distraction. You can try telling her "no" when she is tearing up things and give her something else to play with...maybe throw a toy mouse or ball in the other direction. Most cats are easily distracted like that. Good luck!

I have a declawed female that loves to tear the cotton off a Q-tip! Declawing won't change the habit. If you don't want her to do it, you'll have to keep those things out of her reach. Mine gets them out of the waste basket. I don't see it as a problem.

she probably likes to play with it... I would buy her some cat toys and put the cotton in a safer place where she cant get to it

I discovered that closing the bathroom door so they can't get in works better than anything. Thanks for not declawing! Good luck!

My cats get into that somtimes--I just keep stuff out of their way, so they can't destroy it.
