Hi, I have long straight hair and a medium length fringe. I usually only wash (shampoo & conditioner) my hair in the evening, but I would like to know if it's ok to do so twice a day? Because it's easier for me to style my hair when it's wet/damp (with a hair dryer). I'm afraid that my hair will dry up because of over washing, what do u think? Thanks!

When you shampoo your hair, you're stripping the hair of its natural oils. Washing your hair twice a day, even once a day, is severely damaging the structure and condition of your hair. Even though people hate oily hair, the oils are imperative to the heath of good hair, particularly when it's been coloured.

You really should aim to only shampoo your hair every second day, otherwise your hair could be under a lot of unnecessary stress and damage due to your actions. If you like to style it damp, just wet it, don't shampoo! You don't need to shampoo your hair before each styling...

Buy a spray bottle and soak your hair before styling it, rather than taking a shower and washing it constantly.

Your hair will love you for it, and even though you might think your hair is okay now, you really will see a decided improvement in it.

I think you have answered your own question.

Shampoo depending on the kind that use, may be a bit harsh for washing the hair twice a day, nor is it really necessary to wash your hair that often.

I think you should wash your hair once a week or every other day at the most. Are you swimming every day, where there would be an abundance of clorine in your hair? If so, that would be the only reason why you would need to wash your hair so often. When you wash your hair frequently, you are stripping your hair of the natural oils that your scalp produces, thus causing dryness and breakage.

If you really need to wet your hair up to style it daily, try washing as I have outlined above and condition it daily, usually in the morning and style as desired. Conditioner will protect your hair, rather than drying and stripping it with shampoo.

Are you also using a lot of heat on your hair, i.e. hair dryers, curling irons and gel? Because that is a no, no too!

You need to have some natural oils in your hair. By washing it every day you are completely stripping those oils from your hair, it will dry out your hair. Start washing it once a day instead. At first your hair might get a bit greasy, but after a few weeks of washing your hair just once a day, your hair will get used to it and produce less oils, so it won't get greasy.

I was told by my hairdresser that shampooing too often removes the natural oil of our hair. He suggested that I shampoo my hair every other day only and use conditioner everyday. In your case, if you want to have a damp hair before styling in the morning, you could just use a conditioner instead of shampooing twice.

Once a day is plenty; otherwise you wash away too many natural oils and risk having dry frizzies & breakage (horrors!) My hair has highlights and my stylist recommends washing every other day unless I engage in much physical activity that results in sweating.

You can dampen your hair with a spray bottle of water when you wish to freshen your style...just be careful of that hair dryer...too much heat is not good for your hair either. Maybe you can dry on low rather than high, and be sure to hold dryer away from your hair.

Peace & blessings.

What others said about stripping your hair of its natural oils is true. Once a day is fine. If your hair is extra dry or damaged every other day may work better.
Just dampen your hair so that you can style it again when you want to. Also, I have had success using Thermasilk products to keep my hair soft and smooth when blowdrying my hair.
Just be ware of putting product in your hair both after you wash it and then when you dampen and go to style. Too much and you will have flat/limp or even greasy hair.

I wouldn't wash my hair 2 times a day. If u really want 2 wash your hair every day just wash 1 time a day.

It sounds a bit too much washing. Try to maybe spray your hair with water in the am to make it styleable rater than washing it twice a day.

It will. The detergent in the soap will strip the natural oils from the hair and it will look dull and lifeless.

I suggest a plant sprayer set to fine mist. When you want to style your hair, use this to dampen your hair and style to choice.

no you shouldnt.....you will essentially remove the natural oils out of your hair and you could end up with dry hair or scalp....you should really only wash your hair 2-3 a week.....
