Yeah you are right. THE current baleno production will stop in December. A new car based on the newly launched SX4 will be lauched as Baleno. i.e. a booted version of Suzuki SX4.
Now here comes the biggest problems. Maruti was about to launch a new Zen in October and it still hasnt arrived so i dont know when a new Baleno will be launched. But i have heard that it will be launched before Apr-2007.
I.e. i have heard that after the launch of the Zen and Swift diesel a new Baleno would arrive. I dont know about the engine and other detalis. But it is said that the new Baleno would be benchmark for space. It is based on SX4 platform and the SX4 has safety rating of 4 stars in NCAP.
So it will be significantly safer than the current Baleno
My advice: Wait for 5-6 months. If the new baleno comes then its great for you. The new Baleno is really a great car. And other thing, mostly no maruti dealer will tell you detais and give the information as they would be in a hurry to clear the stock of the current car.
Now you can go to windingroad.com and there click on the Spyshots section and keep on browising the pages, there you will see something 'SX4 sedan spied' that is the new Baleno. for more deatails buy the October issue of the AUTOCARINDIA magazine and go to page 60. The September issue of the above mentioned magazine also has pictures.
Hope this information helps
regards

Dont hold your breath waiting for it to come. It should be available mid 2007, but like any other Suzuki (the swift being an exception), it will be another ultra-dull me-too car which delivers perfect-by-the-book performance. Their cars have no spirit. Expect it to look like the Ford Fiesta or Chevy Aveo. Suzuki can never be really original (Even the Swift is a strange hotch-potch of Mini, Beetle and Renault vehicles).

Look at other options unless you really do not trust Hyundai/ Ford/ GM, and there are pretty good reasons to do so.

Comfort is more than expected, smoothness and handling is excellent, Even if you drive it for speed, you still get the best mileage in its class. Overall when they see a black Baleno coming behind from the rear view mirror, they feel somthing is coming, "Let's slowdown and see what it is !".

And also I live in Singapore and There are SX4 s over here....
I have seen them in the showroom.. Looks good actually..There is also in the Singapore Motorshow!
Much better than the old one!
