A lady from the humane society want to place my dogs in other homes. I love my dogs. They are my family. But these dogs are guard dogs (due to a prison break, in my area). I believe my dogs will bite people. I don't have the moneys to take them to a vet to put them to sleep. And I know the humane society will uthenize them. What law says, I can't uthenize them myself?

If your dogs have to be put down, you should call all local vets, not just one, and see if you can work something out..trading labor or services, etc..It would be far easier for them, if you were with them, rather than the whole traumatizing and frightening process of it being done by a society, who will drag them place to place, put them alone a scared into kennels, and eventually the death walk...How much easier, for you to take them in, and have the injection that calms and relaxes, and then the paralyzing injection, while you are comforting them..

It is illegal in every state to kill your own dog..unless it is harming you or yours.
However, yu asked if we thought that YOU should have thright too? I think in certain circumstances, yes, but not generally..

Quite categorically - NO!

It is utterly beyond me how someone who claims that their dogs are "family" could consider euthanising the dogs themselves.

Aside from that, for starters, if the Humane Society are already onto you, they'll immediately realise that you killed the dogs yourself and hey presto, you'll be in prison - and quite right, too, in my opinion.

By far and away your best option is to let the Humane Society take them and either euthanise them professionally and properly (they may even let you be there to hold their paws, if you wanted to!) or maybe rehab them so that they can go as family pets.

Not all "guard" dogs are euthanised, as there is a demand for working/service dogs that are required to have the "bite first, ask questions later" mentality.

Give them a chance and let the professionals take them over.

I don't know where you live. Here in California you could be arrested for killing an animal if you get caught.

How do you know they would bite a new owner? Maybe they would just be very protective and be good guard Dogs for someone else. I had a Doberman that was like that and she turned out to be a great dog for me. I saved a Dog at the pound that was a bitter, the pound was going to euthanize, and she became best friends to a gf of mine, couldn't separate them. Dogs have good instincts.

Maybe you could run an add or go to your vet and find someone who is looking for a couple of good guard dogs for their business.

Have you called your vet to find out what it would cost exactly to have them put down if that is what you decide you want to do. Maybe the vet would let you make payments, or you could do one at a time.

If the humane society wants to place them in new homes, she feels they are adoptable.

Do not "euthanize" them yourself, you don't know what you are doing, and chances are it won't be quick painless and humane.

Give them over to the humane society...it is best for the dogs.

I'm confused...It is against the law to euthanize any animal. The humane society will put the dogs thru a series of tests to show habitability. If your dogs are deemed safe, why would you want them put to sleep? If they are deemed unsafe the humane society will indeed euthanize them. All you have to do is be willing to sign your dogs over to them.

It is wrong to "euthanize" a dog when it is not dying, sick and suffering. This is the meaning of euthanasia. Otherwise, it is plain killing and getting rid of an animal. So try to place them in other homes, if you can't keep them. Many people want guard dogs.

By the way, euthanasia

there are many laws that say you cannot uthenize them yourself, ask the humane society the next time they show up

not to mention are you a liscensed professional at killing or could you potentially harm your loved ones

and am i to understand you are wanting to do this at home as you are afraid they will do it somewhere else?
