My car, Nissan Maxima, has some issues.....and I had already asked a question about coil packs and fuel injectors. So, that being resolved, I was wondering this:

The man at the repair shot (not a dealership) told me I was only running on 4 cylinders and its a V6. How is that possible? Is that possible? I bought the car used, and when I drove it home, I thought it ran pretty decent and it was fast, I think 180-190 HP. I do notice a difference when I'm driving since the coil pack and 2 fuel injectors were replaced, but I don't see how it's possible I'd be running on only four cylinders. Anyone have any insight on this?

Not knowing what year were working on here? But cars with coil packs first appeared in 1990 Maxima VG-30de engine. But I am going to guess your car had a coil pack and injector worked on was a 1995 and newer. It is possable for the car to run on five or four cyls at idle and pick up the missing cyls at higher speeds. In that case your cars check engine light should be lit if there is an engine misfire. Watch for the Check Engine Light when you turn on the key. If the light does not turn on, you can have codes tested at many auto parts stores. Don't worry if you get a Knock sensor code. Knock Sensor won't set the engine light. You need the engine light to warn you. And get back to us if your car is running on four the gas mileage will be horrable.

its possible for new cars but since you put used i take it that it is old new cars i really dont think nissan has this but some new cars can run on only some of its cylinders so it can save gas but take it to the dealer this guy was trying to cheat you or something

it will be only a vent valve stuck open. come across a save that would want to smoke-try your EVAP device (they use a particular smoke gadget). this may value you round $100 to locate the leak. that is going to likely be more low-priced than replacing the completed canister.
