St. John's Wart is an excellent over the counter herb to help with depression. Depression isn't something you can just 'snap' out of it's a chemical imbalance of serotonin. SAM-E is also another great over the counter product that can help. I would choose one of the other, SAM-E is more expensive. If these don't work for you after a few weeks see your doctor. There are excellent prescriptions to help and it's worth it to get help. Think of it like diabetes if your body had trouble with a sugar imbalance you would get medication to correct the problem, Depression is the same way it's a chemical imbalance and can be corrected. Too many people suffer when they could get help!

St. Johns Wort is known to help lesson the effects of mild depression, but if you take any prescribed antidepressant drugs, then you shouldn't take St. John's Wort. Also, it doesn't work for severe depression, only mild to moderate.
Valerian Root helps calm anxiety you may or may not have. Usually people with depression can have a brother effect like, anxiety so this is why I mentioned this.
By the way, I've tried everything and finally sucked in my pride which resulted in me seeing a counselor. I found out that I have "severe manic depressive disorder" also known as, "bi-polar." Now I take
"Lithium"

There are plenty of over the counter medications that state they will cure disorders from A to Z. If you are depressed you need to see a therapist, psychiatrist anyone who you can talk with. Just a pill over the counter will not help. There us usually is a reason for depression and if you talk with a professional, which is strictly confidential, you will realize what it is and if not it's ok. But you may be put on medication that a professional will be keeping a record of and if needs to be changed will do so. Please don't medicate yourself. Go to a professional.

try 5-htp, it's an amino acid that's naturally produced in your body that helps to produce serotonin. if you really feel depressed though, you need to go see a doctor. i took 5-htp for awhile and it didn't do much for me. I'm now on lexapro, and so much better. maybe medication is not the right choice for you, but you need to talk with a professional and figure out what your best options are. they deal with this all the time. start with your primary care physician, and they'll help you where to go from there.
in the meantime, you might try getting onto a vitamin regime (vit b, c, d, calcium/magnesium, multi, and fish oil are what i take.)

Honestly, what helps me is eating right..that is healthy with at least some veggies, getting the vitamins you should..and working out a bit..or playing with a pet ,like a dog etc..Im mostly depressed, but i find all that works. And if you have a poor diet like junk food,it makes you depressed for some reason,so try eating healthier if you dont already.
g'luck.

I have had depression in the past and have even been given prescribed drugs, they only patched the problem. I know you have probably heard it before, but it worked for me, start excersing and eat a diet without processed food. It does work and if it doesnt you have something deeper then just depression and you should consult a doctor.

St. Johns Wart is an herbal solution for nervous problems such as depression. I gave it to my mother for quite some time and it helped with her moods. It is also very affordable.

tell yourself you can. focus on the positive things in your life. find out what you are grateful for, think good thoughts........first thing to do is fix your surroundings....dissatisfied with your room arrangement? dont like the way your socks and underwear are arranged? start by fixing those simle things then look deep and think positive thoughts and eventually you wont think as many negative thoughts.
