The bible is something that someone made up.

Hell doesnt exist.
Heaven doesnt exist.
There is no God.

These are my beliefs.. I'm sure you'll receive lots of different responses to that.

Well in Revelations, it speaks of the earth being opened up and the devil and antichrist being cast into hell. For what its worth, i read this far-out article once on the net that wasn't Christian at all where they were suggesting that extra-terrestrials could come to earth, not from the sky but from the center of the earth. The hypothesis goes that at the center of the earth, the density is such that a singularity is created where time and space are distorted that could possibly create a wormhole to another dimension. I know that's really far-fetched, but I couldn't help but think of the Biblical discription of hell; intense heat, timeless, bottomless pit. Interesting if not terrifying.

I always thought that Hell was the earth itself. The term, "Life is hell" comes to mind. As for the myth that it's the center of the earth, I'm not so sure.

I know that the Greco/Romans had their myth/legend of the Underworld. So that may put the date before Jesus and Christianity.

"Tartarus, or Tartaros is a place of eternal torment and suffering, similar to the Hell of Christianity, Netherworld of Pagan religions, the Hindu Naraka, Judaic Gehenna, Chinese Di Yu, Islamic Jahannam, and Roman Paradise. Tartarus is also a person in Greek myth."

The Bible says that hell is enlarging herself. That is a fact. The Bible speaks of hell as being down, and of heaven as being up. That is a fact. The center of the earth has the characteristics of hell: darkness, heat, fire, etc. God might be using the center of the earth for hell right now. Job 28:5 says, “As for the earth, out of it cometh bread: and UNDER IT IS TURNED UP AS IT WERE FIRE.”

Its just a common assumption...

it could be considered that since the devil was cast down from h heaven he'd be within the earth considering that we also consider the sky to be where heaven is....

it could just be the catholic interpretation of the early times... all legends generally speak as hell as decending into the ground.

As a people though, it is built into us all to look upwards when we think of a higher being, i think this is more a natural thing than a docterine of religion.

The only thing i do find interesting is... when the bible was written they couldn't possibly have known that the centre of the earth was molten lava... yet the devil was depicted as being in a place of fire and brimstone... strange coincidence?...

I don't know where it started but I think it has something to do with the devil lives underground and considering we live on a spherical planet hell would have to be in the center of the earth. also all the lava and magma helps with the "fires of hell" myths as well.

the ancient Greeks believed that the dead go to a place underground, hades. the Romans followed the Greek myth.
The Egyptians on the other hand believed that the dead are going to places closer to the sun. The Catholic church, that was established in the roman empire, modified and mixed these Pagan beliefs, hades became hell, the place where all those who die except the righteous Christians go, and only the righteous Christians go in the direction that was similar to that of the ancient Egyptian belief, that is closer to the sun, or heaven.

myths are always placed in locations that are hard to examine, so hell was put, in ancient times, deep underground and heaven in the sky. Now with aviation we found that the sky are empty, and that sort of faded the exact location of heaven, but we have yet to be able to roam freely the insides of our planet to make this fable die.

Hell has always been portrayed as a hot, inhospitable place to spend the rest of eternity, i think that when people realized that the center of the Earth fitted this description they adopted it.
This was a place they knew and it was easier than trying to explain that Hell existed on a different plane of existence.

The word Hell means the grave. In Hebrew it is referred to as Sheol and in Greek it is Hades.
Hell is not a hot place but just the grave where the dead are resting. Traditions has made hell a place of torment for wicked souls and good people go to heaven but biblicaly that is not how it really is. Ecclesiastes 9:4-6 states the dead are conscious of nothing and have no existance.
Psalm 115:17 "The dead themselves do not praise Jah,
Nor do any going down into silence."
Psalm 146:4 "His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground;
In that day his thoughts do perish"

The Bible refers to death as being asleep.
When Jesus resurrected Lazarus he didn't snatch him back from heaven to his body on Earth. No. Jesus awakened him from death what Jesus refered to as sleep.
John 11:11 "He said these things, and after this he said to them: “Lazarus our friend has gone to rest, but I am journeying there to awaken him from sleep.”
Hell is where all the dead go until the day of judgement not just wicked.
God of the bible is not a torturer even of wicked people. It is not a quality of our creator. God is love (1John 4:16)
The wicked will perish into annilation "The second death"
Revelation 20:14-15 And death and Ha′des were hurled into the lake of fire. This means the second death, the lake of fire. Furthermore, whoever was not found written in the book of life was hurled into the lake of fire.
The lake of fire refers to complete destruction no longer existing, no return. Forever life forfeited and not sadistic eternal torment at God's pleasure as tradition would have it.

During the same days as jesus's walking life. In those days, large prisons were built underground or in large caves. Once many of the prisoners went in, they were never seen again. It was basically the point to die if you were sent there as a criminal. Over time those places were just regarded as places of hell.....or hell itself. perhaps not literally but....the reference was strong enough to last this long...lol.....people are funny with the things they remember.
