Occasionally tape worms will aggravate their bottoms, but by far the most common reason for bum irritation is impacted anal sacs..Easily treated, by the groomer or vet, or by yourself if you are not squeamish...lol

its not a bug my friend. Its called an anal SAC or ANAL GLAND. It fills with fluid and causes pressure on the animal. It relieves this pressure by rubbing its butt across the floor, ask your vet. The vet RECOMMENDS that you EXPRESS the anal glands on a regular basis. This is best left to your VET, but after the 1st time, they will SHOW you how and try and ENCOURAGE YOU to express the gland for the dog. Pay to have this donw on a regular basis cause doing it youself can be rather gross and mind numbing.

tape worms which are caused by dogs ingesting fleas can cause itching, but more often it is an attempt to clear the anal glands that causes a dog to scoot. tape worms are easy to kill...ask your vet, they usually don't even have to see the dog because the wormer is very safe

It sound more like blocked anal sacs. Call the vet and have it checked out. They will drain the sacs. it is relatively simple but it is gross. They will usually show pet owners how to do it-but I think it is worth the cost to have the vet do it. The stuff that drains out is disgusting (very smelly). Good luck.

this is pretty gross, but if it's a male dog, there is a need to "clean" the prostate gland (done by vet) If the dog is otherwise healthy. i.e no worms, parasites

I would have the vet check his ANAL GLANDS. They usually itch more from a problem with that than having worms.

I would recommend that your pet see his veterinarian, as there could be a couple of things that may cause this. Good Luck.
