Diets can work but because we know so little about ourselves and our relationship with food, it makes it difficult to win the battle. A lot of us have problems with dieting because we have a problem called "emotional eating" we eat to comfort ourselves during difficult, stressful, sad, etc times in our lives.
You may experience all those emotions during dieting as we continuously get on the scale hoping to see a big difference in numbers after dieting only for a day or two. Also what is stressful when dieting is that we try to lose a large number of weight in such a short period of time which in most cases is unreasonable.
This all brings about stress, discomfort and sadness. When we feel this way, we turn to our best friend for help and support which for many of us is food. The diet is now broken and we feel that we can't stick to diets. We then try fad diet after fad diet hoping to lose the original 20 pounds and now we may have as much as 30 pounds to lose because we continue to put on weight as we continue to break these fad diets by binging before starting our next diet.
Please learn about your relationship with food before your next diet so that you may achieve your goals. To help a little, keep in mind the following:
You already know how to lose weight. You know that if you eat less and exercise more eventually you’ll see the pounds come off. What’s getting in your way? Why do you usually regain the weight you lost? The answer to all these questions is the same “Emotional Eating.” Simply defined, emotional eating means you eat to satisfy emotional hunger; it means you use food for comfort or as a way to cope with life; and it means you eat for reasons other than what your body needs. Whenever you reach for a boredom-breaking snack despite your commitment, or whenever you eat to quell anxiety, that’s emotional eating. Whenever you binge after a fight, or double up on portions because your day turned sour, that’s emotional eating. Whenever you feel that sharp craving for your favorite food, that’s emotional eating. When we eat during these times while on a diet, we believe the diet doesn’t work or that we lack self control and then look for the quickest way to lose weight (fasting/diet pills, ect) after eating all we can since we already messed the diet day up. Read the information below but remember that emotional eating plays a big part in why we don’t continue dieting and why we regain lost weight and why we binge today and start a new diet tomorrow. Best of Luck.
P.S. After learning about my relationship with food, I was able to drop my weight from 263 pounds down to 151 pounds which is a 112 pound weight lost.

once you're on a strict nutrition plan and you're actually not cheating (consume no greater desirable than 1200 cals an afternoon) and you're workout 6 days each and every week for no less than 30 minutes, you will possibly desire to do ok. ensure which you artwork up a reliable sweat. Drink a minimum of two liters of water an afternoon. The pounds will come off. wait and notice. First week or 2, you will lose water, after that, you will lose fat at a million-2 pounds each and every week. some weeks that's going to be one, some 3.. yet stick to the plan. If that's not working, strengthen the quantity of workout.

Don't target losing more than about 2 lbs per week. If you try to lose faster, your body will go into "starvation mode" and get very stingy about burning calories while at the same time very efficient about storing any calories that you do provide. And it will make you feel awful.
The most effective way to lose fat is aerobic exercise in the "moderate" fat-burning range, ideally first thing in the morning before you eat. When you wake your body is ready to burn fat and your levels of growth hormone are highest at that time. Later in the day it can take up to 30 minutes just to put your body into a fat-burning mode.
Another overlooked way to burn fat is by lifting weights. Skeletal muscle has very high caloric needs... almost twice that of adipose (fat) tissue. Put on a little muscle and you will burn calories all day even at rest. Be aware that skeletal muscle weighs more, so with this approach you may see your weight increasing while your body fat is melting away. Not realizing this often stresses folks who think they should be losing weight as a measure of fitness. Forget the scale, look in the mirror and you will be happy.

hi, i was really worried when i read that reply from someone who thinks u can lose up to a stone in a week. apart from being total nonsense, it would also be a VERY dangerous thing to even attempt. if u are dieting and exercising sensibly then u should expect to lose 2 or 3 pounds in a week. if u really work hard then it MIGHT be possible to lose up to 5 pounds. to expect any more is just setting yourself up for a fall..... and please don't starve yourself - that is totally pointless. if u try that, your body will put the brakes on your metabolic rate, and u won't lose weight quickly at all. just eat small, regular meals, drink plenty of water and get as much exercise as u can . good luck

You can loose a shed loads if your ill... But anything over 5-6 pounds is unhealthy and makes the body confused and think its being starved and so stores up a bit of fat.... as long as you do exercise as well as changed your food to a better diet it will stay off, its when people just change there food for a few weeks then wonder why the weight comes back on.

I don't really know how much weight it's possible to lose... but if you cut your portion sizes and also stop snacking between meals, it makes a huge difference...
In the last 2 weeks, i've done exactly that and have lost nearly a stone.
However, i would like to highlight that starving yourself isn't good. I once heard of a lady who wanted to lose weight starving herself and she ended up killing herself because she wasn't getting enough vitamins and that... her heart just failed...
It's always good to go gym too... well worth the effort.

I dropped a dress size when I was severely ill, because I didn't eat for seven days. Oh and also, I had to spend the next entire week recovering because I was so weak my muscles had gone floppy and I couldn't stand then skin went like, grey. So don't go trying that on purpose!!!
About 3lbs is "safe" to stop you gaining all the beef back.

If you starve yourslef you could lose up to a stone- I have, but never on purpose, only when I am ill or stressed! It's not healthy though, and you will put it all back on (and probably more) the minute you stop. Sorry to say the only way to do it healthily and permanantly is slowly and the best to lose is just 1-3 pounds a week,. However if you are very overweight you may well lose more than this in the first few weeks. Good luck!

If you really work hard the first week and watching what you eat and exercise, you could expect to lose up to 5-7lb in the first week, then probably 1-3lb in following weeks.
Do you have a lot of weight to lose? If you do, I would recommend the Cambridge Diet. Its a bit extreme, but sure does work. A friend of mine lost 4.5 stone in 4 months.
I've just started it on Monday so have my first weigh-in Sunday.
