Hello everyone,

I am a natural red head with a bleached blonde top section. Underneath, it used to be an intensive red but it's all grown out now and is my nautral colour.

I want to colour over the bleach to go back to my roots, maybe leave in some highlights. Is this possible? If so, would it be possible to do it myself?

Billie :)

When you colour over bleached hair, you need to put the tone back into it. Depending on your natural colour your tone can be yellow (blonde hair) orange (light brown hair) or red (dark hair.) If you don't put the tone in then you will become a shade of khaki. From your question I wouldn't recomend attempting this at home. To try and repigment (add tone) your hair and have highlights is very difficult and therefore would probably say find a salon. As a hairdresser myself I can't even do my own at home, so definetly visit a salon, they will give you a good result.

To tell you the truth - the last time that I tried something like this myself - I ended up with really bad look - would suggest that you go to a hairdresser so you can get an all over base colour (they will adjust for the bleached area and leave it for less time so the final effect is that the hair will look like a single colour) then if you still want highlights the hairdresser will be able to put in complementary ones. After this you can then treat your hair at home by doing root re-touching or even a full colour change.

I wouldnt try doing this yourself.

Go to a salon.

The stylist will be able to put a few blonde pieces into packets or foils with no colour on, thus leaving the highlites you want, whilst colouring the rest of your hair.

With it being bleached, it could go a nice ronald macdonald colour or khaki if you try it yourself.

I would not recommend doing the coloring yourself. If not done properly, the blonde section can pick up the undertone of the color. Meaning that, your blonde can come out a nice shade of green, or violet, or an orange color.

A colorist can give you the highlights you want, while coloring the rest of your hair the color you actually want it to be.

Hope this helps.....

Find a color close to your natural color and dye all of your hair. pulling thru a cap and highlighting it would be the best way if your gonna do it at home. You can strip your hair back to it's color but this process is very damaging to the hair and i would only let a pro do it. Good luck

There should be no problem since you are not colouring them dark. If you are, the color might stay for a while but soon will fade off. So no worries.
