She's mainly a house cat, but we usually let her outside (which is fenced in) once a day, although we don't worry much because 95% of the time she stays on or near the porch.

Well tonight she was out during a rainstorm, and she came in the front door, which is very odd.

Then she curled up on my bed and slept for several hours.

Eventually I went to pet her, and she got extremely agitated. It's the area above her hind legs to her tail, and like I said, the slightest touch sends her into a fit.

Otherwise, she appears to be fine. She can walk without much of a problem, although she walks very slow.

I know the only logical thing to do is to take her to a vet, but should I be in a hurry to take her?. Also, isn't that an odd place for a cat to get injured? The only thing I can think of is if something hit her there, unless she tried to squeeze under the chain-link fence and got hurt, but there's no wounds that I can see.

So what, probably a bad bruise or broken bone?

When I was a police officer I saw quite a few injured animals. It sounds like she injured her spine or hips. Commonly cats and dogs are hit by cars and break their backs.

Since she doesn't have any open wounds, she obviously has internal injuries and may be bleeding internally.

I would definately take her to the vet first thing in the morning. They can give her a shot for the pain. Sounds like she has a significant injury.

Good Luck

It's not an odd place to get injured... I've seen many injuries there... I used to work at an animal hospital. The logical thing is to get your cat to a vet immediately. It could be a bite from another animal and could get infected. I saw an injured cat (the owners didn't know what happened) that wound up having puncture wounds on either side of its spine (a dog bit it on the back). The wounds had to be drained every other day, they were so severe. And the worst part is: There was nothing visably wrong until we shaved the cat down... Cats naturally clean themselves, especially a wound so by the time the cat came home to the owner, there was no blood or anything else to indicate a puncture wound. So, get your cat there immediately. Hopefully, it's nothing serious, but I've seen too many cases where you just can't tell unless the cat lets you near the injury site or you shave the cat down and check... Good luck and send my love to your cat... I have two of my own and know the bond between pet owner and pet.

This is a very common injury for cats. It may be a cyst that is filled with fluid/infection but probably hasn't opened up yet. This usually comes from a scratch or bite from another cat. It will eventually become an open sore and drain some foul-smelling liquid. It's very painful to them and a visit to the vet is definitely in order. I had a cat with this and he came home from the vet with a drain that we had to leave in for a couple of days. The vet will also prescribe antibiotics which are essential to healing the infection. It doesn't hurt to clean the area (if it's opened up) with some hydrogen peroxide if she will let you.

Cats can endure an ungodly amount of pain. They have been known to walk around on a broken leg for weeks or months until the owner notices something is wrong. If your poor kitty is in enough pain that it's causing her to walk slowly and become agitated, I think you should just have the vet check her out.

Relax.
She came in and jumped up on your bed and slept a few hours. You noticed nothing unusual.
Her back is sore & she growled, not whined, It was a warning, only.
Walking slowly but normally means no broken bones.
You don't need a vet; cat shouldn't either

FYI Cats will not crawl under a fence that they can get over. She may have landed wrong.

You should bring it to a vet to get looked at. It just hisses and growls because your cat is probably in a lot of pain. So if you want your cat to get better take my advice and take it to see a vet.

yes that's sad, if she,ll let you, put her in a cat cage & go to the vet, he will tell you for sure, that,s what there paid good money for. Good luck, I love cats & that saddens me, when they get hurt, cause they can,t tell you what,s wrong with them.
