...There is no god but God and Muhammad is his prophet". (my arabic spelling aint good, thats why i give it to you n english)

Why is the mention of "and Muhammad is his prophet" necessary? Why not mention all the prophets mentioned in the Quran?coz a muslim must acknowledge all of them. Why isn't "There is no god but God" enough?

It is essential to bear witness that there is no god but God (Allah) and to bear witness that Muhammad is His Messenger and Prophet because both go hand in hand. By saying you believe in God, you will know what God wants of you by following the teachings of God's final messenger. Like using the newest version of a software... it is the most complete and up-to-date information. It is Muhammad's message which God designed for all of humanity until the end of this world. The message of all of the other Prophets (peace and blessings be upon them all) was for their own people and for a limited time. All Prophets told of the coming of the Last Prophet and how his message would be valid until the end of time. So by bearing witness that Muhammad is the last prophet, you commit to following God's teaching in according to the way shown by the him (may God's peace and blessings be upon him).

Muhammad (peace be upon him) is also the leader of all of the Prophets - this will become clear to all in the afterlife - therefore by acknowledging him, you automatically acknowledge all of them as they all taught the same essential message: There is no god but God.

The guy before me ask, "what is the shahadah".
Well shahada is the statement or confession by ur tongue, acception in ur heart and manifest in ur acts, that u r a Muslim.
The confession sound like this, "I bear witness that none is worthy to worship except Allah and I bear Muhammad (peace and blessing upon him) is His Messenger.

Back to the question, why saying that Muhammad pbuh is necessary. the answer is quite simple. Because if u want to know the God, u have to know through him. Because I dont think the God will reveal Himself to us and says, "Worship me". If u want to know is ur God, what the God want us to do, there is no other route except believing in the teaching of the prophet.

Do u know that Allah is thy Lord, if Muhammad pbuh didn't revealed to us. Do u know what the God want us to do, what is the right path, what are the do's and dont's if the prophet Muhammad pbuh didn't utter to us.

God tell mankind what to follow and what is forbidden through the prophet, isn't it.? Therefore, not believing in the prophet Muhammad pbuh means not believing in God.

So why only the prophet Muhammad mentioned in this statement. There are about 133 (if i'm not mistaken) apostle (rasoul) and thousands of prophet (nabi). If u want to say all their names, one by one, I believe in Adam, I believe in Abraham.....it would take forever. Thus just saying I believe in the prophet Muhammad is enough. Because the prophet believe in all other prophets. Believing Muhammad pbuh is believing to all prophet.

If Allah had mentioned about all the prophets then the size of the Holy Quran would exceed to the tallest building on earth, what is not required is not mentioned, it is unnecessary.
Prophet Mohammed P.B.U.H is the last Prophet and his teachings are important for todays time. The previous prophets came for different times.Prophet Mohammed P.B.U.H has completed the chain of prophets. He is the most liked prophet of Allah.

Allah is only God and Mohammad is His messenger. That prooves
who accept this he/she is Muslim. We dont say old prophets names which are confirmed in Koran because it is so many but we accept them all.Suppose one of them not accepted by any Muslim person he will be unbeliever and enter to hell.İn time of Abraham Muslims had to say:Allah is only God and Abraham is His prophet.Time of Moses:Allah is only God and Moses is His prophet.Time of Jesus:Allah is only God and Jesus is His prophet.Than they are İslam.

And to answer the question: Reema has my answer. :P EDIT@ Nawab zada: -Okay, so why are you generalizing? I don't get where your justification comes from? How is it right to say that we worship the 12 imams?
