The objective in a resume is to let prospective employers know why you are applying to them. For instance if you are trying to get a job in customer service, your objective could be as follows:
OBJECTIVE: "To secure an entry-level position in the field of customer service."
The rest of your resume explains why you are qualified for the job.
Of course, don't take my word for it, I never really liked making out resumes!

Simply it should say why you are writing the resume....i.e what is its objective
--on a side note unless you can be very specific it is wise to leave it out.
---it is helpful for those who are starting a career rather thatn switching jobs
