Yes, it does seem to be a bit late this year. Some of the trees near me (Cambs) still have green leaves on them. They are beautiful though aren`t they?

Yes, London, Home Counties, South East - Not just the leaves, it all seems to be a bit behind schedule... where're those frosty crisp mornings, and I've not broken out the heavy woolly jumpers and thick coats yet either!
Bit worrying, though I'm not convinced that it is entirely due to global warming, some years are naturally milder than others, and as they've said it's the 'mildest winter for 100 years' then I suspect that means there was one like this 100 years ago!
Not that I'm suggesting we should stop paying attention to pollution, the planet needs all the help it can get!

It is because the cherry tree has a more alkaline trunk and because the acid levels are therefore lower in the leaves they are less affected by the elements as water/rain does not weaken them only allows the nutrients to dissipate slower through gentle osmosis.

I think you are right. I live in South Africa and the flowers are late in blooming this year. It should have happened in September, bt has only started at the end of October.
Change of the seasons due to global warming?

Yes, although they're certainly falling now in Hampshire.
Plus there seem to be quite a few bushes flowering when you wouldn't expect them to.

It's hardly surprising really - we haven't had much cold weather yet, and until a day or two ago, no wind and rain combined - that usually drops them like mad! (Greater London)

Yes they are.
Have you noticed too how mild the weather is, I'm not even wearing my winter coat yet and normally by now it's bloody cold.

Not as late as last year - some actually still had a few old leaves on as this years were shooting. (South-West, BTW.)
