No, why should they be short?! If someone wants to put a very long question up, then that is up to them. No-one has to read it, or read it all, and no-one has to reply.

I don't like endlessly long questions, but neither do i like questions that don't give a bit of background.

A question like 'Does my boyfriend love me?' is impossible to answer. But if a bit is added on saying 'He is sleeping with my best friend!' then it is safe to reply that he doesnt love you cos he doesnt care about your feelings!

If you mean Yahoo Questions, yes, they should be BRIEF.
I think on the whole you'll find brief questions attract more answers, and Best Answers are often brief.
Didn't someone say that "Brevity is the essence of....." something or other?
