I'm supposed to catch an international flight at JFK after landing at LGA. Is 2 and half hours enough time to get my checked in laugages, catch a ride to JFK, pass through the security checks and still catch my flight. I'm travelling with 2 big suitcases and a carry on bag. An how much does it cost for a cab between both Airports?

That is really cutting it close... and as we all know, there are way too many chances for error.

If there is absolutely no traffic, you can get from LGA to JFK in about a half hour.

I think the hold ups are going to be getting your luggage at LGA, and then getting through the baggage check/security screening at JFK. You might want to print out the boarding pass for your JFK flight ahead of time and then check your luggage at the curb. It might be a little faster.

There is a taxi line right outside of baggage claim at LGA, so you shouldn't have any problems getting transportation once you have your bags.

I say try it...but have a back-up plan in case you miss that flight.

One thing to be aware of is that flights into LaGuardia are almost always late and international flights out of JFK are almost always on time. If your flight into LaGuardia is the first flight of the morning you should be fine otherwise count on arriving late.

However, if everything is on time you should be able to make the connection. I know they say you should check in 2-3 hours ahead for international flights but I never get to the airport more than 1 hour before any flight (domestic or international) and I've never missed a flight in my life.

You may want to look into having an airline ship your bags to your final destination rather than carrying them yourself. That would cut down on a lot of hassles. If you ship your bags and print your boarding pass at home you can go straight to security at JFK.

That's cutting it close, especially if there's any heavy traffic on the expressway, but you should be fine. Be sure to get one of the guys driving any of the Lincoln sedans (car service) outside the terminal. They will be in the baggage area so watch for them. Tell him you will tip him well and you won't have any problem. Fare will probably be $25 to $30... throw in an extra $20 and watch him get you there. They are good, just be sure to hang on!
