I say be honest and straight up. But dont be ugly about it or he'll get defensive. The truth is as nice as you try to be he may get defensive anyway. People dont like rejection so try to be as honest as you can without seeming like you might be interested. If they think there is a chance then they'll keep coming back.

ok, classic line is "lets be friends" personaly, i hate a girl after she stops talking to me. it's like, could you be any more immature. whatever you do dont just give him the cold shoulder till' he gets the hint. it will make it harder for him to trust other girls. that sort of crap is what makes guys "clingy" in their next relationship. try the, "listen, i know how you feel, and i am flattered, however, i cant think of you in that way, i'm sorry." that leaves no room for questions, no serieous pain, and you look realy matiure! :)

Tell him he's out of your league.
I personally ask women if I can borrow some money... that way they think I'm the weirdo(maybe I am, who knows these things). But that only works for men.

Tell him that u are such a nice friend of mine can u help me decide that what type of guy i should be in love with. I know that our friendship is so pure that u would not be jealous if i discuss my love affair with u.

Just tell him that you're not ready to commit yourself to one person. Say that you can be friends with him, but that you just don't want a boyfriend right now.

Don't worry, I've heard 'em all:

I think we should see other people; It's not you, it's me; I'm married to the sea - and if those don't work, six simple words: I'm not gay, but I'll learn.

Never tell him. Just slowly bleed him dry of dignity, resources, and the will to live. He'll get the point.
