When I use my broiler, no matter what I'm cooking, it smells really bad. Like Chemical-bad!! Always the same awful smell, but the food comes out OK. Could the oven's coating be burning ( or something...)? I'm worried about the fumes being toxic. Thanks!

Have you cleaned it recently? If it hasnt been used much a lot of oven cleaners take a long time to clear out.

Toaster ovens are great for convenience foods (the kind you find in the frozen foods section). You can cook about anything you do in a stove in them too just have to do it in smaller sizes and adjust the times a little. I find they work great for Nachos too. With the microwave you always end up with then hard cheese on some chips and it not worth heating up the broiler on your stove for. So a toaster oven work well. Just cover the pan that came with it with tin foil (you'll thank me for this when it's clean up time). lay out the chips on it add the topping and the cheese. Stick it in the toaster oven turn to broil and watch it when the cheese is melted pull them out and eat.

Your oven needs cleaning, make sure that there is nothing stuck to the walls of the oven and on the heating elements themselves. Sometimes you don't see the splatter. And yes, the fumes are probably toxic, just like anything you burn and eat can be carcinogenic.

Is it a new stove? Some times they have a smell, but after heating it up and leaving it hot for a while, the smell will go away.I wouldn't think the fumes would be toxic.Do you have a lot of smoke, too? That would be a different story...

Have you used it before? Have you looked at it, is this the kind of broiler in the drawer or on the top of the oven?

there is something wrong here, you shouldn't be getting offensive odours nor fumes, write to the manufacturer, who should be able to pin point the problem or make useful suggestions, till then i don't think it's wise to use the appliance.
