I feel for you. I have the same problem you have and I have refused to use medication. I've got a great husband, great kids and no reason to be depressed but I am. I've been taking fish oil and I am reading a book that comes with a workbook called battle of the mind. Great book. It's been working and I actaully feel motivated and I have been feeling less depressed.

I used to feel the same way until I changed my diet.
First I bought a water distiller and now I drink nothing but distilled water. I jog in the morning and really watch what I eat. I went out and bought about $200.00 in supplements. I take about 26 different supplements twice a day. I can really feel a major difference and I no longer have to take an anti-depressant. In fact it's not good to mix some supplements with anti-depressants. Her are just a few of the vitamins I take.....
Acetyl L-Carnitine 250mg twice a day
Co Q-10 60mg twice a day
Ginkgo Biloba 60 mg twice a day
Ginseng complex 300 mg twice a day
St. John's Wort 300mg twice a day
DHEA 50mg twice a day
Flaxseed Oil with Omega-3 1000mg twice a day
B-6 100 mg twice a day
Zinc 100 mg twice a day
Alfalfa 1300mg three times a day
Vitamin C 1000 mg three times a day
vitamin A&D twice a day
Niacin 500 mg twice a day
Milk Thistle 175 mg twice a day.
I usually take all these with a bowl of oatmeal and a chocolate protein shake every morning. Then right before dinner at night.
I could really feel the difference in how I felt physically and mentally just after 3 or 4 days.
You can research supplements and vitamins on the net and find out what is right for you. Try it...you'll like. Good Luck

That's a tough question. There is still a lot we don't know about depression.
I came across an article called Turning Off Depression in the Scientific American august 2006 issue, that talked about a new discovery. A women (Helen Mayberg) found an area in the brain called area 25 which is more active in depressed people. The area looks to be a sort of gateway between the emotional and logical part of the brain.
Apparently, quieting down the electrical activity in this area made improvements to various degrees in a group of people chosen for the research. The results sounded very good.
Something else that I believe was mentioned in that same article was a new method of fighting depression. A lot of times therapy type treatment involved digging up bad memories and focusing on the bad things in life and trying to deal with them. The method talked about in the article involved concentrating on good things.

Yes, You can do that. Depression sometimes is just a state of our mind. I'm not a psychiatrist, not even a doctor. Just gained this from personal experience. I'm a happy person not until I loved someone and failed. Since then, I became depressed and can't even eat. I suffered, and I realized, being depressed doesn't worth. Maybe started to become optimistic did help a lot. I've been depressed too without a reason, from there, I started to focus more to God. Well, then, thru giving time to God, there, I realized, that worries, anxieties and others are so easily relieved. And that makes my life fulfilling.
Maybe you should try to seek what makes you interest rather what suits your interest. That way, you'll avoid feeling depressed. A Talk with your family maybe.

I used to feel this way also and I am sure many people have felt this way at some time in their lives. If you feel depressed for more than two weeks and are unable to function normally you should seek some help. Talk to your friends, your family about issues that might be bothering you. If they don't listen or understand, find a counselor and talk to them because they might be able to help you deal with your issues. I got help when I started to get depressed and I find that sharing my problems with people who care about me really helps. Everyone needs help; it does not mean their is anything wrong with you. You just need an outlet. Good Luck

I would say you are insecure and that makes you sad and there are probably unresolved issues without medicine I think the only way is to get a counseller (yes the problems are almost always subconcious)

there's nothing wrong with you
failure is not an emotion we openly accept because it brings confusion in our world that we thought was perfect for us so when it comes we have to re-organize...life if just for a moment
trust me you're not alone
what i say is "let go and let God"
see i realize my world isn't perfect but in the midst of my storm i can rest assured that i am not alone and that God is bigger than any problem i have
if i trust Him to work it out He will
speaking from experience He has
only you know why you feel the way you do but only God can fix it without meds
talk to him and he will hear

Depression is actually a fairly common experience. I would encourage you to explore your feelings and concerns in therapy with a licensed mental health professional. The best results are often obtained through a combination of psychotherapy and medications, so please consider availing yourself of these tools. Best of luck!

You are an unexpressed artist,,,,,,, take the emotions and put them in an art form, feel and contemplate your emotions. Be more honest to people about them, let go of shame and have little pride, love more, and only love above you, never settle for below you...have faith in coincidences, read wierd books, Do not be normal, find out who you are, and be it...... and most importantly, the thing that you want.......... help others have it.........SERVICE TO HUMANITY
