Is it an appropriate movie to take a 3-year old child to watch? Or are there any violent/frightening scenes that could scare a child that age?
(My daughter's seen the commercials and every time she sees the little penguin she says she wants to watch it, but she's a very sensitive child and anything remotely "scary" freaks her out).

Yes, there are a number of scenes/things in most "kids" movies nowadays that I find objectionable.
I found scenes in "Finding Nemo" or "Ice Age" to be inappropriate for her age. I took her to see Curious George when it first opened, but the big fat guy in it scared her. I figure she's a little older now, so she might enjoy it.

I'm taking my four year old to go see it. Try it, if she doesn't like it, then you can always leave the theater. It took a couple of times for my son to sit through a movie at a theater. To be honest, in every movie there are parts that may scare a small child, like in chicken little, and Madagascar, and even cars!! good luck!

My favorite is Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. It's about a guy who marries his love only his parents don't approve of her and he has to leave the family. After 10 years his younger brother decides to bring him back, but has to track him down. He reunites his family, and in the interem the daughter-in-law that they didn't approve of because of her low birth grows into the daughter they always wanted. That's what I need after a bad day... a bit of sadness followed by a happy ending. The songs are nice and the acting is top notch. I've watched it so much I can quote some things and it's not even in my native language!

Happy Feet is a great movie. I've seen it as I was invited to rate and see the movie for the first time. However, the scenes like when the penguines get attcked by a seal might be a bit frightning but i think your child could cope.

What?? You have to expose your kids to different emotions. Just before you take her or walk in. You tell her that it's a movie and not to be scared because you'll be there to protect her!! And if she does get scared tell her to tell you when she gets scared and you'll go out for a while, but that you have to come back and sit down! GOOD LUCK!

If you feel these movies are inapprpriate for your daughter then don't take her to them. Since YOU are her mother it is up to YOU to decide what is appropriate for her not strangers on an internet message board. Frankly if my daughter were still three I would have no problems taking her to see this movie...but that is MY daughter and it is up to ME to discuss with her anything that she doesn't understand in the movie.
