My little girl does this too, and it drives me crazy. The only thing that works for me is to completely deny access to it. By this I mean- put a band aid on the scratch. Then put clothing on over it that she can't remove or pull up easily when you're not looking. The best item for this is tights. Also, try to get something on the scratch like neosporin to help it heal more quickly. Once she realizes she can't pick at it, she'll lose interest and forget about it pretty quickly.

If she keeps scratching the wound, then it obviously itches very badly. Go to your local pharmacy and search for a toddlers anti-itch cream that will help stop the itching. Ask the pharmacist for advice on anti-itch creams you can use for toddlers. Also, you can put mittens on your daughters hands to help stop her fingernails from digging into her skin, but being two she'll probably just pull the mittens off, but it's worth a try.

Cute mittens? Also, try pretty band-aids that she'll like. Band-aids are cheap, so even if she takes it off, you can just slap another one on. But save the cute band-aids for the first time of the day, then use the cheapie plain ones if she takes it off. She'll learn not to take off the band-aids if she really likes the cute ones.
It's really hard not to scratch when it itches -- I still do it, and I'm in my late 30s!

Maybe try a special band-aid like one that has her favorite cartoon character on it or something--might prevent her from taking it off.
or play a game with her like mommy wears one in the same spot and she cant take hers off till she sees mommy's off. Then she can check everyday.
Or put "magical cream" on it and then cover it with the band-aid and tell her the magical cream will make the boo boo go away but only if the band-aid stays on for 3 days. Then you could count down the days with her and see if the magical cream worked.
Thats the best I can do. Good Luck!

She doesn't understand "don't scratch" she is only two years old. I suggest using rolled gauze to cover the wound completely or perhaps discussing the problem with your doctor or "hotline" nurse and see if they can prescribe an ointment that will help it stop itching. She is a two year old child, not an adult her mind isn't mature enough to understand the way an adult thinks. You're not going to get through to her by expecting her to know what you mean.

She is scratching because it itches. Put some antibiotic cream on it that contains painkiller (labeled plus) and cover it with a band aid. It will stop the itching.

Trim her nails. Try the band-aid. Also, try the liquid band-aid but let HER apply it each time. Negotiate with her. Ultimately, even at two, one sometimes has to suffer the consequences of not following wise advice. Pay LESS attention to her until she pays MORE attention to your advice.

Have you tried liquid band-aid. It does not come off for several days, and I don't think scratching will remove it. And you can always close the wound with super glue. They use it in operating rooms now, so it must be okay.

Well, if it itches, it is either becoming infected or it is healing. Let her heal Mom. Just try to keep her little hands as clean as possible and keep her fingernails trimmed as short as you can get them and keep her mind on other things so she forgets about it.
