My mother cleaned a spot like that using hairspray once, then gently sponged it with water. It worked. I was amazed.

This was quite a while ago. There might be better products for the newer inks now.

I have always used hairspray to get out ink pen stains in fabrics. I have never tried it on wallpaper, but on walls I often use those Mr. Clean magic erasers. Its works great at getting all my kids artwork off of the walls!

Good Luck!

You might be able to carefully patch it. If it is flat wallpaper, get a piece of matching wallpaper (from behind the sofa, near the bottom if nowhere else), see if it matches, and then glue in place.

If it is embossed or raised, you might have to cut it out before pasting your new sample in place -- if you cut it out, you can hide the ball-pen mark behind the sofa near the bottom.
