What are your symptoms if you have it.

It is a terrible thing because I cannot drive at night, especially if it is raining. When a car is approaching me, I cannot see at all because of it's headlights. Have anyone drove while it was raining and you could not see, especially the yellow and white lines? Is there a cure for it? Dying to see again

Nyctalopia (Greek for "night blindness") is a condition making it difficult or impossible to see in the dark. It is a symptom of several eye diseases. Night blindness may exist from birth, or be caused by injury or malnutrition (for example, a lack of vitamin A).

The most common cause of nyctalopia is retinitis pigmentosa, a disorder in which the rod cells in the retina gradually lose their ability to respond to the light. Patients suffering from this genetic condition have progressive nyctalopia and eventually their daytime vision may also be affected. In congenital stationary night blindness, the rods do not work / work very little from birth, but as the name implies, sufferers do not get worse.

Another cause of night blindness is a deficiency of retinol, or vitamin A, found in fish oils, liver and dairy products. In the Second World War, pilots flying night missions were encouraged to eat plenty of carrots, which contain carotenoids and can be converted into retinol. This was also done to help hide the secret of radar from the general public. [citation needed]

The opposite problem, known as hemeralopia, is much rarer.

The outer area of the retina is made up of more rods than cones. The rod cells are the cells that enable us to see in poor illumination. This is the reason why loss of side vision often results in night blindness. Individuals suffering from night blindness not only see poorly at night, but also require some time for their eyes to adjust from brightly lit areas to dim ones. Contrast vision may also be greatly reduced.

Yea, I had one she used to be a lovely three 12 months historic mare, I obtained her reason she had first-rate conformation, I understand she could be convenient to teach. Not!! truly corral balky. I did get her broke, however spotted if I obtained off her while it used to be getting darkish she could simply fall over her manger and stumble upon matters, early morning or night time while the shadows have been lengthy she used to be very spooky. She broke out first-rate, I bought her for $2500 and I'd paid handiest $three hundred for her, The customer stated her could have a riskless stall for her. So unhappy that the Vets and homeowners are not able to attempt to discover the traces that give a contribution to it and give up breeding them.

I have night blindess. Have had it for about 20 years.

I drive with glasses. My drivers license says I can't drive without my glasses.

It is horrible driving at night in the rain especially when I haven't been somewhere before. I avoid driving at night.

Vit A is good for eyes. Carrots are good for eyes.

Maybe you shouldn't be driving.

You could increase the amount of carotene you take in, with supplements, or just eating vegetables high in carotene like carrots. It's very common with people who don't practice good diets.

its not real common but there are lots of people out there with it and as we get old most all of us develop a sensativity to headlights and so on. you simply have to stop driving at night, otherwise you will kill someone.
